I tow a 8-9k fifth wheel and my truck, 97, 2500, 4X4, auto, 3. 54, dies with the smallest grade. I talked to my mechanic and he suggested a #8 BD fuel plate as a first step. He said with sensible driving my transmission should hold and I should gain 1-2 mpg. I would like get your opinion as I see some prefer a #10 plate. Also, I'm installing pyro and boost gauges. Appreciate any advice?

Thanks,

Jim

Mileage typically will not change, if you can keep your foot out of it. I've heard that the best plate for all around towing is a #10. One of the best improvements you can make to your trucks towing ability is a torque converter. That just my opinion though. - Buck

Buck is right. A gain of 1-2 mpg with a plate is BS. I wouldn't a guarantee that the plate would hold a #8 plate. My stock trans didn't the 10, even in stock postition, and with the AFC spring tightened to reduce the low boost fuel to help the transmission along.

Need a modded T/C and VB at minimum.

I have the 10 & like it for towing, an 11 is a nice improvement over stock.

Niether will help your mileage. I gained a little power & 1mpg by having the timing bumped to 16.
