Which fuse or relay would be the best to pull to keep someone from starting my truck. I want to do this for a temporary theft protection measure.

Is there any other quick disable tips??

I have to go out of town this weekend and would like to bring my CTD back home:)

Thanks

Hello waterdonkey,

There's no "surefire" method of pulling fuses and/or relays but this might help imo...

1) Pull the starter relay from the PDC (under hood drivers side)

Better yet, get a replacement relay and cut a tab off the relay so it becomes a "dummy" that looks functional but is not.

2) Pull the 10amp "Engine" fuse number 9 from the in-cab fuse block (inside cab driver side, left of steering wheel)

Better yet get a replacement fuse and cut one tab to make it a "dummy" that looks functional but is not.

The problem with this method is that #1 can be bypassed with a jumper under the truck at the starter and #2 can be bypassed with a jumper under the steering column.

That's where a good alarm comes into play imo. Bypassing #1 and #2 takes time and trying to do it with an alarm blaring will cause 99% of thieves to pass on your truck.

1. Unplug the 3 PCM connectors.

2. See if you can start it. If not, take the PCM out and take it with you. If it does, remove the ECM and take it with you. I KNOW it won't run without that!

:D

Injection Pump Relay...

I would recommend the Fuel Injection Pump Relay. It’s the lower left relay in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) i. e. the fuse box under the hood. Fuse 3 would also do that plus. That was a good idea about making a dummy relay, but I’d hate to do that to a perfectly good relay. It would be nice to find a replacement hood latch handle that could be locked from inside the cab. I’m still looking. An alarm that disables the truck is a better bet. I don’t want to make anyone paranoid, but what’s to stop a tow rig from lifting the truck. One can only do so much…:(

There was a James Bond movie a few years back in which the would-be car thief was obliterated when the car exploded upon his attempt to break into it. I mean, if you're gonna lose it, at least no one else will have it

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the one about the tires the best. I just want to make it a little harder to start the truck. If a thief wants something bad enough they will find some way to get they want, unfortunately. A few seconds could make all the difference. Hell, a thief probably does not have good enough taste to steel a Dodge CTD ;) ;)

Thanks again,

Waterdonkey
