Competition how did i do

Off Roading iceland anyone? first time in the dodge

I'm about to enter a local truck and tractor pull with my stock 2004. 5 6-speed, and I was wanting some advice for which gear to pull in. I've never pulled before, and I was thinking 2nd gear would work. A friend of mine, who is a tractor puller, said to use first gear. Any advice from some wiley vets?? TIA.

Udaloy,

The 04. 5's have some nasty defueling programmed into them.

If you notice while driving the "good" fuel doesn't start coming in until about 4th gear.

I have pulled my 04. 5 3 times. Each time I pulled it was in 4th gear 4X Lo.

Since you are stock, you might consider pulling in 3rd gear.

When pulling just take the RPM's up to around 3k or so.

Do not touch the brake at all, and have the clutch pushed in and slowly let out until you feel it start to engage.

Once you feel the wheels start to spin or bite let more out, just dont kill the engine.

When you feel a full revolution of the tires, I would advise letting it out all the way.

Oh, thanks a lot. I think he said Middle Branch, but I'm not sure. It's just north of Louisville, I know that. I haven't completely decided if I'm gonna pull or not. I only have 1800 miles on it, and more importantly, I don't want to get bit by the ever expensive pulling bug. My wife will kill me.

Does the 03 305/555 6 speed have a defueling bug also? Was interested in the bd speed eliminator/anti defuel chip. Just didn't know if the 03's had a defueling prob. Lee.

jwilliams,

Thanks for the info. 3rd gear in low range worked pretty good. I had some pretty good ground speed going when the pan hit. I ended up 5th out of 10 trucks with a pull of 292 feet. Every truck that placed higher than me had some kind of work done to it. I entered the pull in a grudge match with an '04 Dmax. I'm proud to say, I put 50 foot on 'em (ok it was actually 49), but I smoked him none the less.
