Which HD-PU has HD Transmission???

General Motors has copied the idea of the ISB connecting rod comparison pictures for their new HD pickup advertisments.



In the Feb. 2004 issue of Western Horseman GM has comparison pictures of the Allison shaft vs. Ford and Dodge with the question, Which Heavy Duty Pickup Really has A Heavy Duty Transmission? and the statements... Does your truck offer an Allison transmission... Does that transmission have the same shafts used in medium duty commercial trucks... Chevy Silverado HD pickup does. ... .



Sure you get the idea!!!



You guys will have to stop with the connecting rod pictures comparison and other things or at least copyright the ideas to minimize GM copying you



Bet you can come up with responses to their new campaign

I saw it on the back cover a farm magazine. I thought the same thing about the con. rod pictures when I saw the mag.

The ultimate rebuttal for Dodge would be to show the connecting rod comparison and just say "Does your truck have a medium duty diesel engine?"

Is the Allison 1000 series really a medium duty truck transmission? Has anyone tried to order either a Freightliner or an International (real medium duty trucks) with a 1000 series Allison?



Betcha can't do it... the max torque rating on the Allison isn't high enough! Both the Cummins in the Dodge and the 6L Powerstroke in the Ford exceed the Allison 1000 torque specs!

I had a 02 durimax W/ Allison transmission, 2500HD 4X4 the truck was almost at gvw all the time. 32000 miles lost all gears but 3 left me stranded 150 miles from home ended up being a bad valve. 33000 miles cracked trans housing, Cause seized U-Joint. Ended up getting a new transmission on that deal. 35000 miles trans temp running to high, well that was verry common all the time when towing. I ended up trading the chevy for a 350 PS 6 speed, really not happy with it either.

Ordered a 3500 SRW 4X4 dodge 6 speed 12/22/03 It is being built today Oo.

My dad has a durimax w/allison and hasn't had any problembs with the trans. 5 injectors later not another problem. He very seldom tows more than 10,000 lbs.

Allison 1000 depends upon it's reputation perceived in basically medium duty and heavy duty trucks and other vehicles, like dump trucks, busses, straight trucks. I've driven some of these, and all of them with Allison transmission's shifted like a TRUCK truck. Our's at work were in the shop a lot. After driving these things for years, when Chevy introduced the Allison, I thought, what the heck are they thinking?



The Allison 1000 is merely an upgraded heavy duty car style transmission, like the Dodges and the Fords. No one in their right mind would want a REAL Allison TRUCK transmission in their nice pickup truck!



The difference is, as I see it, Dodge decided to use their older design and improve it and probably to save some money. Chevy needed a selling point on their trucks. Would they garner more customers with saying "Now with an IZUZU engine!"? Not likely. They own Allison, so why not make a GM pickup transmission and call it an Alison? They put Allison's in HEAVY DUTY "manly" trucks!, don't they?? I don't think they warranty it for 70,000 miles.



In the HD truck market, image is a big selling point. Most of these owners seldom keep them over 60,000 miles.



I did see an SHOCKING and interesting comment in Four Wheeler magazine a couple of issues back. They said that Dodge was the only truck designed to last 200,000 miles. The Fords and Chevy's were designed to last 100,000 miles. Honest to God!

On the back cover of the Jan. '04 issue of Progressive Farmer is where I saw it.



I looked on http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/righttruck.htm , but didn't see it.



Progressive Farmer didn't have it on their site.

Chevy's been advertising this for years. Just like the new Ford F150 is has the most towing and payload cap of ANY full size pickup truck. I assume that includes the Super Duties?

Pictures on internet?

The add I saw lists a website www.chevy.com/silverado, but do not know if it has these pictures, cause I am kind of particular about who I accept cookies from, and they require them (sort of like a VIN number to verify a compliant on certain websites!!!!).

At my last discussions with a GMC executive (sat next to me on the plane!!) when he asked me about how my HD GMC (91 gasser) was doing, and got my explanation including their warranty work ( 3 computers, 2 transmissions, replacing the right front end for a grease cap failure, 15 trips to diagnose the preceeding!!, and the final straw was failure to reimburse an alternator failure, replaced by Chevy, cause NO GMC dealer within 150 miles!!!) we agreed on one thing, I would never own a GM truck again, and he would never talk to me again!!!!!!
