which Intercooler and plumbing

i stepped away from the whole diesel scene for a 6 months or so. just bought the gf a 04. 5. I would like to know if theres been any intercooler shootout's 1 truck same day same dyno. I am looking for a intercooler thats comes with bigger and or straighter plumbing than stock.



I have banks on the other truck but want to know if theres any other options.

well you see I am not trying to run 45 psi of boost with this truck, (maybe the other :-laf). I am just looking to remove restrictions and improve air flow but still run a air-to-air intercooler. The only thing this truck will probably ever tow is a 5x10 single axle trailer. so egt's arent really a problem, especially with the area where we drive the truck. This is only a daily driver truck, that we are not really looking to make big horsepower numbers, just big MPG numbers. the dually beside it is pretty much already the race truck.

Then you need to find something else to spend your money on that will actually help you. The 04. 5 has a metal capped intercooler that will do everything you describe above.

stole the banks off my truck and put it on the gf's truck and we been riding around alot and still havent filled up since sunday. by now the truck would have needed to be refilled, OUCH. I found a boost leak from some aftermarket clamps that shouldnt have been installed and it provoked intercooler swap. EGTS are colder than I would like (heat keeps injectors clean) but i dont like filling her tank either

Take a look at the BD intercooler. Bigger inlet and outlet, more frontal area, extruded cores. It works with a lot of boost and supports a lot of airflow through it. It will give a 100-300 degree or so reduction in egt usually, compared to stock.
