I am shopping for running boards for my 00 3500. What type is easiest to keep looking good? Painted fiberglass boards or the stainless steel? I would like to hear fron someone with the stainless ones to find out if they really hold their appearance.

I like the looks of the color matched boards but can't find any that are as wide as the dually fender at the back.

Thanks

Bill

00 3500 ETC DEE Patriot Blue 2wd.

You might try DeeZee. I dont think they have paint to match runningboards but they do have a selection to choose from. And Im sure they have runningboards which widen to the dually fenders.

I have brushed aluminum bars, they're easy to keep clean and will never rust. Dad has lund Street Neats?? Street Heats?? I think Street Neats. One of the 2, I can't remember. Fiberglass, painted to match. They go up and over the duals and the front wheels, all the way from front bumper to the back bumper. They look really good, but they tend to get chips from the front tires where it goes up the duals. They also have a step right before the dual. They work great for getting ladders off of the top of the truck.

RUNNING BOARDS

Had a set of stainless LUVERNE running boards on my '95 dually looked way cool, especially with the stainless rear muflaps. currently have stainless SMITTYBILT nerf bars on my '98. both were easy to care for, with an occaisional spray with stainless steel cleaner. :D

I have full lenght aluminum running boards that go all the way and flare out for the duallies. I thought I would need them to keep the rear flares from becomeing chipped when I drive down gravel roads, they didn't help at all. I should have saved my money and got the nerf bars like I wanted. I even added bushwacker cut out front fender flares in hopes of keeping the paint good, no luck.

Tell ya in a few years for sure....

... but so far the Putcos I run live up to their billing. This is the 2nd set I've had-the first was their original design (squared-off outer edge) on my '86. They stayed in perfect condition until my brother managed to put the truck in the ditch sideways at speed at which time they turned into a very shiny snow shovel  . But they're still shiny sitting back on the scrap pile today 7 or 8 years later! :D . Didn't matter how much mud/salt/whatever accumulated on them, a quick trip to the carwash and they were gleaming again.

This set has been on since the truck rolled off the lot (10 months ago) and so far so good-let 'em get covered with whatever, take it to the carwash, bingo back to gleaming again. Pretty strong too-I'd buy another set in a heartbeat.

If I wasn't so addicted to shine I would have seriously considered a set of the Mopar color-matched boards-think they're some sort of urethane outside over an aluminum frame? Those babies are super-strong too-and the color is molded right into them so theoretically there should be no marking them up... .
