I'm interested in buying a 12V, manual transmission 2nd gen. with the intent on modifying it. Is there any difference in block and head durability that would make one better than the other? Also, which are more responsive to modification if any? Thanks for the input, love the site.

I think you could get IH blocks in 96's

96-98's had the big injection pumps. 98 was the only year you could get quad cabs and short beds, but some had 53 blocks. you don't hear of many of the 12v blocks cracking.

The 96-98 5sp trucks (non Cal) Had the 215 pumps and are the best place to start. They also have larger vibration dampeners on them. I like the 97 the best. they don't have the electronic dash and the club cabs have more rear seat room than the quad cabs.
