Airtab Vortex Generators...

How heavy do you tow with your 2500?

A lot depends on price range but I found Newmar to make a really good product.

Best compared to speed

 "Speed cost money--how fast do you want to go?' That said ; anyone who reads this forum knows how much I like my Alpenlite! :D: :D: Does this mean that Alpenlites are the best? Not neccessarily, but it is a very good trailer. :) My $. 04- (it was $02 until I bought the second Alpenlite) Oo.

Mom has an Avion she is trying to sell and the thing is awesome, if I had the money I would buy it in a heartbeat, unfortunately for me it is a full timers setup and that put's it over 20,000 and out of my range for a while. Gotta finish paying for the truck first.

Holiday Rambler did not make the list? It was out of my price range so I bought a Terry (after looking at them all)

best 5th wheel

Prior to 1998, I would have said Holiday Rambler, but since Monaco took them over, their towable line has gone downhill fast as far as quality is concerned. The emphasis there is completely shifted to the motorhome area and their towables have suffered a great deal.

We purchased a new 5th wheel early this year and could not find anything, including the new Presidential line, from Holiday we really liked. We ended up with a Travel Supreme Express 34' with 3 slides. The TS price was lower and all around looks and quality were much better in our opinion. For what it is worth, this is our 4th 5th wheel (and last if I can keep the wife from the RV lots!!).

If you get a Holiday, buy one prior to '98.

That's a pretty generic question, like others have said, it largely depends on how much you want to spend and what you plan on doing in it. If you're gonna live in it, take a look at Travel Supreme. If you're gonna vacation in it, take a look at Sunnybrook and Arctic Fox. If money is no object, then do as you please :D .

Montana for us

I'm partial to Keystone and their Montana series. You can go into a Montana and tell that they are built by RV'ers. There is a lot of comfort and convenience built into the 5'vers. I'm sure their TT's are the same. It will be an easy 5'ver to work on as well, when the time comes for that. I've looked at the Alphas and while nice, they are way to expensive and are not built better than the Montana. The only other 5'ver I would have purchased if the right one was available would have been a double or triple slide Jayco.

If you want quality

Go to Newmar.

If you want a good cheaper one, Sunnybrook.

We made 4 trips to Ind and watched them made. You would come to same conclusion. No winos or druggies at Newmar. Cain't say that for some of the others. We passed up Jayco 4 times, but never stopped. They had a bad name in 99. No one had a good word for them, so we didn't waste our time. Plus, they actually didn't have anything we wanted, equipment wise.

What my wife and i did was go to alot of RV shows. Not just the ones that had a couple of dealers showing their wares. This took us a couple of years, so we saw lots of junk and some good ones. . Before we retired we did alot of tent camping so we kinda knew what we wanted. There is about three levels of RV's It depends on how much money you want to spend. Your list has some good ones but not all I would consider if I was looking for the Best

I agree with Phoekema, Holiday Rambler was a good choice a few years ago. We were thinking of a new unit for fulltiming when I retire in 282 days and looked at a lot of models and factorys. H-R no way, Teton if one of you guys would give me some money. The Alpha factory was less than impressive. Automate will modify anything for you and you can get disc brakes. Guys that work with me swear by Excell. We came home and remodeled or 94 Holiday Rambler. New axles/brakes (already had Mor Ride) Sound proofed the Generator, 600 ah batterys, 300 watts of adjustable solar, several new cabinets and a lot of other things but this is getting to long. It still weighs less than most 34' fivers and I still have enough money to retire at 50.

We took a tour of the AutoMate plant. I would like to own one but they are kind of pricey.

Disc brakes, air suspension and well thought out features are some of the things that puts AutoMate on the top of my list. http://www.automaterv.com/amods.html

Went to Canada and bought the Travel Aire Kustom Koach LW 270. Not the very best, but the cabover design, good workmanship and favorable currency exchange made it our best buy.

It appears that there are a lot of choices for high quality 5ers, when you are looking at the bigger units. If you want quality in a small to mid-size 5er, I think the selection is smaller. Sunnybrook and Arctic Fox seem to be two that do well in this market. Arctic Fox would definitly be on my short list if I buy again.

As to which is the best, that is best hard to say. I think a lot are equal. Or at least very similar. We have owned a Wanderer Deluxe for 3 years and it has done very well for us.

Still the wife and I wanted a few things the Wanderer doesn't have. More fresh water cap for 1. A third slide . 16 " wheels. And I have to have a seperate toilet room. Alpha didn't have that. The TS was to heavy and not quite what I thought it should be for the money. The Alpinelite does not have a dealer within 275 miles. To get the things we wanted and a weight I feel safe with we ordered a 33' Teton. We found that brand to be a very class unit. All the appointments and construction seemed to be of the best quality. I am told each unit is on the line 3 weeks during construction. I will see mine in Feb.

What is the best? That is answered by the owner. This one fits our wants and needs. The last one we will buy in our lifetime.
