I have read quite a bit about the Torque Converter Lockup problems and although I do not have the problem on the latest truck, it was a real pain on my last.
I have installed new Interstate Batteries, ordered new battery cables and now getting ready to replace the alternator.
Is there one brand that seems better than the others? I believe Denso was mentioned frequently in the articles I read earlier, but I am not sure how old that information was.
Thanks.. Gary Moore

What is wrong with yours? If it is the original I'd throw a rebuild kit at it before I went out and bought a sketchy reman or shelled out the $$ on one of the few "new" units that are available.

I also replaced the rectifier in my 98 some years ago. If you need one I can dig up my old records and post up the info where I bought it. Geno's does not offer them.

If your alternator is/was putting out AC voltage the diodes are shot and replacing the rectifier will take care of that. Rebuild is straight forward if you have basic mechanical skills. I'm sure there's a YouTube video out there somewhere if you want to have a look before you dive into it

Go to www.mopar1973man.com. There are a couple of threads pertaining to alternators, and what is being done regarding the AC problem. If your alternator is a Bosch, IIRC, the diode pack is soldered in. Not very easy to replace. In those threads, a lot of changes are being made upgrading the grounds. A lot of good reading.

Thanks for the replies!

Sorry it took so long to reply. I had the vehicle at the dealership and was told my alternator was bad. When I finally had time to check it yesterday, I was putting out 14.2 volts. Isn't that acceptable?
I have not had problems with the TC cycling on this truck, but it drove me absolutely crazy on the last Ram.
I was getting some intermittent dead pedal and some codes this time and went thru the charging system yesterday and found my Fass Pump POS & NEG sandwiched between two rusty washers on the battery post which ended up being the problem. I have had the vehicle a little over a month and just now starting to work the bugs out.
Thanks for the replies, I will buy a kit and rebuild the Bosch that is on the truck.

Is your problem a charging issue or is your issue that 2nd and 3rd gear in your auto transmission cycling back and forth until you reach a higher speed.?

These trucks are EXTREMELY sensitive to electronic anomalies and excessive AC voltage... Such issues have been linked to failures of many electrical components like the APPS, VP, PSG, PCM, and TC solenoid.

That said, Nations offers a very quality 180 amp unit that offers hairpin windings, 12 diodes, and uses the OEM belt pully size.
