Squeal around 30 PSI Boost

EGR and intake soot

Hey guys if you had your choice doing a mild build would you choose a 2006/5.9 Diesel automatic or a 2007/6.7 automatic both would be a 2500 3/4 ton 4x4 3.73 gears I have a 2007 6.7 diesel awful lot of emissions crap on it thinking of getting a 2006 5.9 which would be better in your opinion either would have to pass emissions once a year

If you are required to pass emissions in your area, I would recommend working with a 5.9l over the 6.7. Much simpler and no worries about deletes etc.

As far as the 48re is concerned, they can be built well to handle your potential power and be very reliable. It all comes down to the $$$$ you want to spend.

This would really depend on where you live. I am not 100% sure but in Calf. from what I have read they are much more thorough with the emission inspection. Some other states there are no inspections for diesel emission at all.

Now cost wise on a 6.7L Cummins you are looking around $1,500 to $2,000 to do a proper diesel emission delete for your year of truck. On a 5.9L Cummins you are looking between $600 and $1,500 to do a performance improvement. About the only item to delete or change is the EGR that is taking place on this engine. The other cost is a programmer to alter the HP/TQ output of the 5.9L truck.

But once you start the slippery slide of performance improvement it is just more $$ for other performance items such as 50hp over stock fuel injectors. Than it will be an Air Dog fuel pump/filters, larger turbo, head studs and new manifold gasket and so on. By the time you are done you could have close to a $50,000 engine in the 2006 truck. Just saying.

I know because my older son has one in is 2006 Dodge truck.

Thanks for the replies guys I own a 2007.5 Dodge diesel 6.7 was going to do a mild build on it but got a chance to pick up a 2006 5.9. Probably just do the Cali delete which is pretty simple

2006 5.9 tuned with a properly built 48re would be better than the 6.7 and 68rfe, even if you were to beef up the 68rfe. But without all the smog crap, you have endless upgrading of the 5.9 CTD if you dare to spend the money. Deleted 6.7's are ticking time bombs with EPA in the hunt. Just remember the deleted 6.7's smoke and is a dead giveaway, not that AT THE MOMENT anybody realy cares, except Comifornia. If I could find a low mile 04.5/05 CTD with a NV5600 trans truck, like the one I sold my brother but in a 3500 DRW, I buy it and sell my 07 6.7 C&C.

This depends on the tune and what programmer you are using! I have been deleted since 2009, with 105K miles on the OD since I deleted. My truck has never smokes at idle or under acceralation. Even when towing my 5er under heavy load up hill my truck will not smoke. I am using a Smarty S67 set on CaTCHER level 3 (60HP/120lb.-ft.TQ) with everything set to default except TQ management which is set to 2. At this setting I have never smoked and this is why I choose a Smarty programmer over the other programmers that were available and are available today.

My younger son has a 2013.5, 6.7L Cummins with an EFILive set on a mild tune. This will smoke under heavy acceralation since more fuel is beginning delivered than can be utilize for acceralation.

My older son has a 2006, 5.9L Cummins and this truck will smoke under acceralation also. His truck also has and EFILIVE tune that has been programed for his engine and his engine only. In fact he can leave a cloud so, dense that 2 min's later it is still a light haze in the area. Even his 5.9L Cummins, 12V,1996 Dodge will smoke under acceralation.

So, to me a general statement is vey misleading to readers of this thread.
