Or which ones are the best? I've got two different styles of clamps for bolting the exhaust housing of the turbo to the cold side of the turbo. Looks like both will work. Anyone seen both, know what is the best?

Bill,

I have the short one with the two holes. That's the inly kind I've seen.

To me they look like they would hold better than the other style... especially since it's broken.

I have the shorter ones on mine right now. I just got a HX35 for the exhaust housing (14cm nw) that had the other style. Thinking about putting them on my PDR HX35 when I do the swap.

Carl

The bigger style I was told works for the 35 and 40. I'm thinking its a hx35 thing and the smaller style is old h1c thing. Its not broken, they are a two piece clamp. I think I'm gonna use the bigger style. Seems like it would have more holding force?. .

Now since I was nonIC'd and don't know have scribe marks to align this new 35 and 16 intercooled style, how do I go about getting it right the first time?? Should I install the exhaust housing onto the exhaust manifold first, then bolt the turbo together?

put them together but leave them a little loose. Mount the turbo then turn everything so they line up the way you need them. Why risk damaging something trying to put it together while hanging over a fender?

Carl

WHat I've done is conenct everythign loosely, like Carl said, then spray some PB Blaster on the slidey parts (namely the housing to turbo surface), put it on the manifold; hook up the oil drain line (with a new gasket- straight RTV hasnt worked for me), and tighten it up, turning the turbo body as needed to line up the drain line squarely. Then finish tightening the turbo housing to body mounting clamps/ bolts. I've never scribed anything, Jay. Must be part of not knowing what I'm doing.....

Thanks guys, I've done what Carl suggested. Snugged the bolts up and mounted the turbo to exhaust manifold. I'll tighten them once I have the holes cut for the IC in the core support and the pipeing through so I know exactly where I want it. BTW I used the h1c style clamps. Can't wait to fire this thing up. I have everything needed for IC install except for the 93 style horn and two 'leg' supports rigged up for the IC. Going to install injection lines and throttle brackets from a 93. Once again its all nuts and bolts, with a little creativity and imagination needed, which is why its taking so long to do as I lack those plus the TIME.

Bill,

I have a stock HX-35 in the garage. The bigger clamps are what is on it, and they are not broken. Two of the bolts hold down the ends where the split is.
