This isn't quite what you asked, but I'll offer it anyway... if you have the time and the money, do yourself a huge favor and order a Mag-Hytec diff cover, and throw that stock piece of poop away. You'll gain a dipstick (no more guessing whether your diff fluid has gotten water in it and turned into Creme of Wheat, or whether its low), and a drain plug! (no more worrying about Permatex at all!). This was (and still would be) my first mod on a CTD.

what WBusa said they are nice and no more guessing. i just haven't done the front because who knows what ill do with the track bar. some say some of the after market stuff dont clear them in the front.

I used the blue stuff in mine and it has worked fine. The operating temp of the rear diff is well within what is specified on the blue stuff.

I used no permatex on the front or rear diff. The stock gasket has a rubber o-ring on it. There is no need of permatex.

I was trying to decide that my self i bought my oil from the dealership and they had this silcone Mopar labled AXLE RTV its a brick red color it worked good. I was going to get a Mag-Hitech cover but after i found out how much they cost and my oil cost me i decided to hold out. It cost me $123. 00 the oil, anti slip additive and silicone to fill with the stock cover with a Mag-Hitech $230. 00 and a couple more quarts of oil it was going to be expensive for one axle service. I will go elswere for my oil for now on

I asked a couple different places they all reccomended "ultra black". Used it on the front, seems to have worked good. I did let the truck set 24 hours before driving it to make sure it cured. . Went with the Mag-Hytech cover on the back. . It will be great never having to remove it because of the drain plug. . Left the front stock, not sure if there would have been clearance from the track bar. Using Lukes Link on it and it rubs the stock cover... .

I agree 100% with Forrest. Any of them will work.

Don't use old RTV, even if the tube has never been opened. After a few years, it will no longer set up.

copper for exhaust gaskets, blue or red for air/water, gray for oil/trans, black for rear diffs, etc.

but I've used just about every color for just about every function and never had a problem... the only one I don't sway from is copper for exhaust.

don't have to worry about using an old tube that's been opened... 99 times out of 100, it'll be cured solid
