Ok - My PS pump is making noises - kind'a like it's low on fluid - but it's not! Is it possible that the wire filter needs changing in the pump - like here: https://www.turbodieselregister.com...5&highlight=pump filter picture*&pagenumber=1

Is this a hard thing to attempt, i. e. how long might one expect to do this?????? ALSO - which power steering pump AND how much does it cost???? Also - isn't the PS and Hydroboast bolted together - i. e. , you need a new gasket after you're done - or am I wrong in that you don't need to mess with the hydroboast?????

hammersley,

The hydrobooster is mounted on the firewall behind the master brake cylinder. The PS pump feeds high pressure oil (PS fluid) to it via hoses. The PS pump is bolted up between the front of the engine and the vacumn pump. I don't know if the vacumn pump will need to be removed inorder to get at the wire screen but if it does you might get a seal kit and put that in while you down there.

The screen is part of the pressure control valve in the pump.

Remove the high pressure hose from the pump and unscrew the retainer that the hose was in (about 1" nut). This is what holds the valve in. You might need a magnet to get the vavle out - yes, there is a spring behind that, but the valve sometimes gets caught on the threads of the retainer.

Easy to do - if you can reach everything.
