Help me out guys...

Want to replace the factory radio/cassette with a factory cd model. Preferrably am/fm cassette/CD and if it had changer controls too that would be a plus. I have the stock unamplified speakers. It seems some radios require the amplified speakers (which I might purchase) and some don't. There are many of these units on Ebay. I have heard stories where the seller says you don't need the speaker amps and the buyer finds out later that he does. I don't want to get cought up in this. If anyone can give me a list of which radios (RBR. . etc. ) require amps and which don't, I would really appreciate it. I hear the CD/Cassete combos don't need amps but I am not sure.

Thanks.

I have a 1200 Watt system in my truck, and it consists of:

Head Unit:(2)-> in truck Kenwood Z919 AM/FM/MD/CD/MP3 player

Also, Kenwood Excelon KRC-X657 Tape deck w/ Changer capability

Equalizer: Kenwood 11 band Detachable Face all Digital EQ

CD Changer: Kenwood KDC-C712

AMPS: Precision Power 1400 Mono Amp for subs

Also, Eclipse 3640 Amp for all door speakers

SPEAKERS: Front- Boston Acoustic Rally 6x9 3 way

Rear- Pioneer 4" 2 way

Subs- 2-12" Kicker COMP VR, and 2-12" Kicker Impulse

I would really recommend getting an Alpine or Kenwood Deck. I had a pioneer, and was not happy with it at all. Also, Look for a radio that is XM radio capable. I am looking to get one of those next, and Can't wait! If you have any questions on any other car audio stuff, PM me... .

MrFixit,

I had the standard AM/FM/Cassette in my '01. I bought an AM/FM/Cassette/CD from a TDR member out of his '02 (it's the RAZ model). It swapped right in - no problems. No amps needed for my stock speakers. If you'd like more info, PM me.

Speaking of speakers

My right speakers get staticy when it's damp out. Otherwise they all work great. What should I do? Can I just replace the speakers with something off the shelf and not spend a fortune? I'm not into a lot of technical sound stuff on radios, tapes, CDs, etc. I have the stock AM/FM/cassette. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I went a semi cheap route. Jensen CM7015 DIN1/2 head unit has CD, cassette and an aux. jack to plug my MP3 player. Bottom of the line Alpine 3-way speakers fit right in. 3 sq/ft of Dynamat around them. Sounds very good at non deafening volume levels. HUGE improvement over stock. Total install time: about an hour and a half. Total cost: under $400. 00

Just remember... you get what you pay for! Just save a little longer, and make it worth the extra effort to get a better quality speaker! It DOES make all the difference in the world!!!

What are good speakers to get and where do you buy them?

Thanks

My opinion for a good speaker would be either a Boston Acoustic or Eclipse speaker. They are a little more than some speakers, but it is the difference between night and day! I have Bostons in my front doors, ran off an Eclipse Amp, and it is a great combo together! They are crisp, and not cursed with any static whatsoever! You can find them at your higher end Car Audio places. Installation is a breeze. If you are planning on adding a new head unit to replace the factory radio, leave the factory wires going to the doors, and run some aftermarket wires. That in itself makes alot of difference as well! if you have anymore questions, PM me, or post another reply on here.

Are there any speakers you can just "plug in" to replace the originals without installing an amp or other wiring? I'd like something at least as good as stock, but it doesn't have to be a big-buck addition. I'd rather spend that money on performance for the truck.

Thanks,

Blake

Rono, Not too sure. . All I know is the place where I buy my stuff does not carry it, so they must not be super top notch... Blakers, NO, there are no speakers to plug in... . remember... . if you really stoop to have a $10 speaker, it will sound like a $10 speaker. . If you have an awesome looking truck, how are you going to ride around feeling good with a sparkomatic speaker you got that plays more static than music?? Just an honest opinion... . Not trying to be rude, but think about it before you try to ½ way it on the sound department...

My system is an Eclipse 5442 with Diamond Audio Hex 6. 5 and 5. 25 with the silk dome tweeters and a Xtant A4004. I have two tweeters mounted just above the 6. 5 in the door and the other two are in the factory location. All I can say is the it sounds great and have had many compliments on it. By the way the only thing that does not look stock is the head unit. You do get what you pay for especially when it comes to installation.

I would highly reccomend either a Kenwood or Alpine deck and either Boston Acoustic or MB Quark speakers.

I personally have the MB's and love sound that they produce, but don't forget, as it was stated above, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
