Ok, after a -5 startup and the associated moaning, groaning, and complaining about it I decided it's time to go synthetic in the power steering resevoir. I read the tip on the turkey baster swap out so that's on the shopping list. But what's the recommended fluid? What is the "must conform to" rating?

I'm hoping to reduce the complaints from the BAT during cold startups (turns over and fires fine, but steering is TIGHT and groans LOUDLY until about 10 miles down the road. Loudly means enough to challange/drown the cummins sound in the cab)

Valvoline

Valvoline makes a nice semi syn PS fluid. I run it in my truck and the PS pump was happy & quiet all the way down to the super frigid +10F my truck was subjected to once

Valvoline

The Valvoline semi-syn is great stuff. It eliminated a sporadic clunking noise that occurred during hard left or hard right turns.

Just power steering fluid.

As far as I know there are just three choices for power steering, automatic trans fluid for older vehicles and some real new ones, Honda power steering fluid for as the name implies, and just regular old power steering fluid which can come in synthetic or dino.

Royal Purple

I'm running RP with good results and its got a cool purple color that makes me wish we had translucent remote PS reservoirs like some other vehicles have.
