There are two brands that my dealer said he could order for my 06 Ram. One is made by Bully the other Pop in Lock. Bully is $6 cheaper. I know nothing of either type. What is your suggestion.

I just installed a Bully lock in my 96 two days ago. Seems to be OK. It stops the rods attached to the handle from moveing enough to unlatch the tailgate. I looks like it would be not too hard to defeat - the plastic trim shield snaps in exposing the internals of the handle, rods and lock. If I ever get around to it, I'd like to move the handle to the inside of the tailgate and weld the hole over with a patch. I got mine from E-bay for $25. 00 shipping included.

You don't say if salt roads are a problem - - - my bully gave up last winter - - couldn't get key in even when I kept it lubed - - - replaced with a pop-n-lock and it seems to be OK so far.

I've had the electric pop-n-lock for 3 or 4 years and it works great. But as with the Bully, apparenlty, pop off the plastic trim and you can unlock the handle with a screwdriver (to move the mechanism).

Bretram65 - - - It wasn't the assembly I had a problem with - - - it was the lock it self that I couldn't keep lubed.

Power Lock

I installed the Pop-n-Lock, Power tailgate lock and it seems to do the job. Had one on my 98' and at times had issues with it sticking, just a little WD-40 and it was okay. The newer model seems to be built a better. The design is different. The install was easy and operates much easier than the older one. Highly recommend it.

I have the manual pop-lock. Fairly easy to install, no tools. Fairly easy to defeat, as mentioned above, but the tailgate "looks" locked, which is usually more than half the battle. I also welded extentions on the locking arms of the two shell/topper swing-up rear hatch locks, so the locking arms extend about 1" past the shell frame on each side.
