I'm going to be needing new tires before too long and want some input on what to go with. My OEM tires are Michelin LTX A/S 265/75R/16. They have 45,000 on them now and are nearing the end of their tread life, although I may get a few thousand more out of them.

I want to stick with an E range tire. I would like a slightly bigger tire (for appearance) but really don't want to effect the rear end gearing as my 3. 54s are not the peak for towing my travel trailer. Does anyone know of a good tire for this purpose. BTW, almost all of my driving is on the highway and so far, about 25% of the miles have been towing. I don't have any complaints about the Michelins so far. Any input?

I just got back from Discount Tire and they sell the LTX A/S and the LTX M/S. They explained they are the same tire with a slightly different tread pattern. The M/S being a little bit more of an all season tire. Does anyone have any experience with the M/S vs. the A/S?

I've got the A/S on my truck and a buddy with the M/S. We traded tires for a week and I lost about 1. 25 mpg running his--he gained about 1mpg running mine.

Thanks jlccc for some very enlightening information. My son has the twin to my truck and it needs tires. I will try to talk him into the A/S. Thanks again.

This site never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for the info jlccc... that's about the best comparison I can think of. Am I correct in assuming that you had them set to the same air pressure?

45 psi front and 40 rear.

I think you will get different opinions of the Michelin A/S versus the M/S if you go to "Tire Rack" web site and look at the ratings and comments by owners of the M/S and the A/S. The Michelin LTX M/S win hands down in almost every category.
