I tried before MY decision and all I got...

I tried the exact same question... with little success. I didn't get a response from ANY other manufacturer's customers and just a couple from BD (and that was from those that work there).

It's too bad that others do not chime in and I definitely understand why. I honestly wanted to hear it from those that have it, not the lunatic fringe who feel they must support Bill K. 's stuff to the death!!! Granted, it sounds as if people are REALLY happy with DTT. But this mudslinging really turned me off to the whole thing (which is probably why BD and others get frustrated and don't buy into it... and don't see the need to perpetuate the CRAP that these ALWAYS form into).

AND I was going to post in the last thread to try and give people an informed opinion from the 'other side', but unfortunately that thread was closed!

SO... I made my (uninformed???) decision to go with BD and so far, I'm very glad I did. EXCELLENT service.

I am not trying to be the BD poster child, nor gain favor with BD (nor **** off the competition), but when I asked about likes and dislikes, all I saw was a slam fest against BD, and Bill K. is a GOD.

That (honestly) also influenced my decision to a very minor extent.

When I asked about likes and dislikes, the REASON I come to this board is because you can make an informed decision and get OBJECTIVE advice. With this trans stuff, members seems to have lost the BASICS!!! (objective opinion)

VERY few companies have gone the extra mile with me... BD and the people there DEFINITELY have!!!

There clutch is holding the HP I throw at it, and I will post (while trying to remain OBJECTIVE) about my likes and dislikes when I get some miles on this thing. I just wish others would have posted about there experience (not all bad) even when the foray started. SOME people buy simply because its the latest and greatest and EVERYONE swears by it.

Being a fairly longtime member and fairly versed in the Cummins, I have SEEN the posts-ideas-products that are a MUST HAVE or MUST DO, when just a bit later, it is found out that that was the WRONG thing to do. Caveat Emptor.

So, let the hammer fall, and PLEASE help out the members that are TRUELY trying to get some input. I feel it is VERY important, and when this NEW 3 disk TC comes out to people in general, lets HEAR ABOUT IT.

BD has a track record (good, bad) and I feel they have well thought out products and are implemented well (maybe not perfect, but who is?) and that was another minor point in my decision.

So here I am with BD... and I will try and post with the results when available, if people are interested (I was and didn't generate anything but another SLAMFEST)

Rodney???????????? I will refrain this time, no more fireworks. ROTFLMAO bigtime!

I read in another post that Time MAgazine was considering making Osama a "MAN of THE YEAR". I fthey do could they consider Rodney King one of our "Statesmen of the Century"????

EagleEye, you make a good point. I do wish we could get a simple objective review from at least 10-20 people on both sides, and just leave it at that.

I don't see it happening. So prove me wrong. I'd love to be :D

The reason it gets hot, is that the people who spend the money to fully BOMB their trannies are those who are... shall we say... Enthusiastic?... About their trucks. They tend to have invested a lot of emotional investment into their rides and have a lot of pride in them. Having 2nd best stuff goes against the grain. Even having someone SAY it's 2nd best is going to cause some hot friction.

And another thing... Something called "repeatability" is determined over years and thousands of units. How often are things changing... torque converters, bodies, settings, other parts? Someone who got their stuff a couple years ago is actually outdated. Reviews of their stuff isn't very meaningful. And some people are never actually happy. No matter what. Others are in bliss dealing with things I'd go ballistic over. And these people could not possibly write reviews meaningful to the majority. Most would not be meaninful to me, since my standards of analysis are probably not even close to most others... .

But as I said... I wish, I hope, I'd love to see... To read... To get good input from... 20 reviews of 1st gen torque converters, even. You'd like to see something else... So guys, make me wrong. Do it. I'll gladly eat humble pie... but I'll bet I won't need to... It won't happen.

<sigh>

Well first I have DTT and have stated that I think its the best out right now. However ...

My impression is when Bill first introduced his TC, there was nothing like it. But time as passed and every one out there will be gunning for him. The rest of the makers out there are not just going to sit on their butts. They go after the guy on top. Its called competition and free enterprise.

Now whether BD, SunCoast or the new thread from ATS has one thats better that DTT or not I dont know. But sometimes I when I read these threads I think we dont give BD and them credit for getting off their a$$ and getting with the program. Maybe their old TC was not as good in comparison but that does not mean the new one sucks too. It may be just about as good, or as good or better.

So get a good TC, yes. Check for good service, warranty and all that. And get some education ( not that your stupid ). Not to say that others dont, but Bill took the time with me to instruct me about things that are good for and bad for my transmission. So my point is to make sure you get a level of training from your TC vendor.

And finally a comment about VB's. And I dont have a clue what I am talking about. But my fingers are going for it anyways. In that other thread, there were comments about having to properly install and adjust VB's versus pulling them out of the box and having them work. -- Well I think this just may be two different approaches. If you try to custom tune 100% of the VB's to every individual customers preferences, then maybe you need to dial and tweak to get there. And this is OK with me. Not a slam-- This is a different approach than the one VB fits all. This may work for 70% of the people, but there are always gonna be people on both extremes that will not be happy with the one size fits all model. So when choosing a transmission vendor as them about how they will deal with you when you want to tweak things. Will they drop your VB and keep adjusting it till is just the way you want. Is that important to you. Just things to ask when shopping for a vendor.

OK trash me.

Time will tell...

Thanks for the 'cooler head' outlook.

I know this thread started as a joke, but when you are going to plug down good hard cash, it is very distressing to see stuff like this. And lord knows, I tried with NO success.

This thread like the others will eventually get archived and it will probably be just another chapter with hurt feelings, broken friendships, etc.

I would still enjoy input though, and I will continue to post my experiences unless it is TOTALLY old hat and other people chime in and give some OBJECTIVITY.

And I really can't wait to see the input on the brand new thread on the 'new torque converter'. Hopefully it won't become a pulpit also! I'm interested!!! :D :D :D

SlyBones:

About your comment on adjusting the valve body different strokes for different folks. I think that there are two camps that operate at the extremes that want their transmission to shift their way. There is also the bunch in the middle that don't know or care.

One camp is into drag/street racing and want their shift points firm and at the right rpm at full throttle.

The other camp pulls heavy trailers and want their transmissions to shift their way at low speeds and light to intermediate throttle (I want the rpms reasonably up before the shift at light throttle). The only heavy throttle shift behaviour I want to see is none or no unlock while I am hammering the grade with 28 lbs boost (just another little throttle at the end of the travel to unlock when I want it to). The only one that has used the wide open throttle shift points on my rig has been the transmission installer.

I haven't done any transmission mods yet, hopefully there coming soon. From what I've seen, there's really only one choice. Not saying this from experience, but I'm gonna to do it right the 1st time. :D

Good Luck,

Doug

I plan on having my trans done within the next six months. I readily admit, advertising, customer relations and cost influence me. A sealed box does not interest me as much as an adjustable one.

DTT has a heavy cross to bear. At this point, my observation, from post, is that DTT has no dissatisfied customers. DTT frequently make post. DTT has a very effective Web page, and a great question and answer section. I have not seen any used DTT pieces and parts for sale. I have seen in print where DTT staff has advised potential customer not to spend their money on a given DTT product.

My logic says there must be other trans venders to compete with DTT, with at least as good a product or maybe better. They need to take a look at DTT’s advertising and customer relations to more effectively compete.

I do not care what the vender's religion is, I am not looking for romance, I just want a quality transmission. I will probably spend $3300 with DTT. Please show me a good reason not to go with DTT.

Wayne

P. S. You can even include the trash :( ; I will recycle and throw it out.

Huntington Beach Dodge can update your transmission with DTT for a lot less that $3300. I had mine done and am very happy with it.

Greystoke just watch out for the rain and that heavy foot. :D :D

I Also had my trans done at HBD( YA BABY )

Big thanks to J/M great job.

Thanks to DTT, you make the power happen. :D

Thanks to DD, you guys make the smoke. :D :D

eagle eye , i'm glad your happy with the BD products you bought , even more i'm glad to see a hopefully untainted review of the latest and greatest from BD .

as far as my opinion , i guess some believe its tainted because i install DTT products , maybe it is , maybe its not . i'll tell you this , if i drove something better , you would possibly see my DTT TC up for grabs , but don't hold your breath . besides who wants a used TC , if there is someone looking for a used TC , we have a protorque Xtreme collecting dust under the bench :p

i have driven 2 trucks with Xstators , have not driven the OLD BD TC , but i have heard from way to many how marginal they were . the Xstaor itself may be a step toward DTT , but its still got a ways to go in my tainted (?) opinion . but then again it may be just what someone wants if they can settle for 2nd best ?? :D

i agree with the bandwagon jumping that runs rampant on this site , i did it with my power edge , but to tell you the truth , i still have it , it meets my needs and gets the job done , i'm not going to give it away so i can get the flavor of the week , there is someone that is always faster ...

i too hope to see other BD customers step up to the plate , though i hope you don't get lonely eagle eye .

I've been out of town for the last couple of days (left right after I locked the "B/D trans equipment, good and the bad?" thread). I for one am REAAAAAAALLY glad to see the level headed posts in this thread - I wish all the auto trans threads were like this. It's amazed me for quite some time how heated the discussions get over auto trans upgrades - there hasn't been ANY other topic on this site EVER that has been nearly as heated as them, nor as often repeated. EagleEye - thank you for posting your opinion on this thread. The previous thread wasn't locked to shut down the debate - simply to try to tone it down (we've had to close several auto trans threads in the past year or so because of this) and get the conversation back on topic. Thanks again to all on this thread for the restraint displayed!
