Whats the best way besides running vin # to tell if a used 03 has a 47 or 48 transmission?

Check the data tag on the valve cover of the engine. If it is a 305hp engine, it is for sure a 48re. If it is a 250hp engine it could be either but most likely is a 47re. Does it say on the glove box door where the options list is? My '03 48re has codes DGA and DG8 listed on the glove box door for trans codes.
