I'm running an 02 auto with a comp, AFE, 4" MBRP, gauges. Was looking into M4's after I upgrade my transmission this weekend. Rip really steered me away from anything even close to 4's with a stock turbo. Sounds like some of the guys at the DTR are getting away with stock turbos. Rip really made this sound like a bad Idea. Which turbo?? The truck is mainly a daily driver and I tow 5-8K on occasion. I've seent the HTT site, but which one and why?

I belive Bob Wagner is running a DZ 14 with his Mach 4's. It may not be the optimal unit but it has an attractive price tag & it will spool up with the best of them.

I only have mach 2's with the stock turbo and I'm pushing the limt. Unloaded everything is fine, but when loaded i have to be VERY careful. I can peg the EGT gauge in seconds under load. I think the HT2B would be a fine choice, nowadays there are several reputable turbo's around.

Hohn is running Mach 4s with a stock HX35 and seems to be keeping things under control. He also has the stock exhaust system.

But if you run the Comp a lot, you might get hot. The HTB2 would be a nice choice or go with the Dodgezilla if you don't want to change downpipes.

You're gonna start seeing people running the larger injectors with stock turbos or maybe a mild turbo upgrade in the future. Mach 5s and Mach 6s are very drivable with the singles that are out now.

I'm very intrigued by JR Atkins' "Lil 55". The price is the only thing that hurts that idea - I may look into one if I decide to upgrade injectors again.

Hohn is running a MODIFIED stock turbo. Though it may be doable to run a stock turbo with Mach 4's... why would you? It's no fun to have all that power when you can't use it and you have to baby it with the power you can get from it.

I am fond of the B1 series turbo's but there are alot of nice turbo's out there today that will make the mach 4's drive great with little to no issues.

I don't really consider Hohn's 35 modified. He's done some porting in the exhaust manifold and where the exhaust would enter the turbine housing. He's also got a needle valve to disable the wastegate.

Really modifying a turbo would include changing exhaust housings, compressor wheels, zero balancing, etc. He's just done some minor improvements over stock and I really don't think that there would be that much difference in the performance of his turbo and my HX35, for instance.

People that say you can support M4's with anything smaller than a HX40 are smoking some serious weed!!!!

Well then apparently Hohn's a pothead! :D Just kidding, but he's doing it, with only the minor modifications that I listed above and perhaps some other detail that I missed. I wouldn't recommend towing with a stock charger and M4s, but driving around town shouldn't yield any problems. Albeit, you're not using the full potential of the injectors, and an uprgrade would definitely add a few more ponies.

People used to say that Mach 6s could never be driven with only a single charger, too. But I've got a buddy that's doing just that now.

Daily Driving and towing are two different worlds. M4's can be used in a daily driver with a stock turbo... . but once you go WOT, or start to tow heavy, you are out of air REAL fast.

I have the M4s, and a DDUFM. Empty, I can bury the go pedal and have no EGT issues until I hit 90mph. With my little jet sled out back, I will bury the pyro.

This is with a PDR35/12. Not to fear, I'll have another spinny thing to compliment the one I've got!
