Ok Guys here is the deal, when i built my shop about 3 years ago, a friend of mine gave me 50 sheets of panelling (dark brown) and i used it on the inside of my shop for interior walls, well no i am tired of being in the dark all the time, I have 24 4 foot lights in the ceiling and it is still to dark, so do i paint the panelling or install something over it that is brighter or more reflective.

Thanks for the replies

Eddie

Yeah I would paint it.

Do it 2 tone, paint the bottom 4-5 feet a darker color... blue, red, etc and then the top white.

any special prep before or just a decent cleaning and good coat of sealer before paint

Thanks agian for the ideas and replies

Eddie

If the panelling has a glossy finish I would suggest lightly sanding the finish to give the paint a better chance at sticking. Or you might want to apply a flat paint before applying a simi-gloss as a final coat.

You are going to wash the walls down first with TSP or something of that nature. Sand everything down. Put on a good primer, Ben. Moore Fresh start primer is really good and very strong. Let this dry for a couple of days. (My BM dealer told me the longer I wait to put the top coat on the better when dealing with paneling. ) This primer is very tough, I painted my basement paneling and could no scrape off the primer.

Just my . 02

Good luck,

We added a cinderblock addition to my father's house years ago. We made the bottom level a garage. Even with florescent lighting, it was always a little on the dark side.

I finally took a sprayer to it and painted the walls white. Wow, what a difference. The reflected light makes it a whole lot brighter.

I would definitely take the time to paint those paneled walls.

I put white glassboard on mine when I built it. Makes it nice for cleaning. Hose and my RV brush and its good as new. That stuff is expensive though. I got mine from a renovation project we did at work.
