I just bought my better BHAF nanfiber air filter and was going to pickup some amsoil for my next oil change but drew a blank on which weight to use. Currently the truck has 179,000 and I run Valvoline PB 15/40 and change it every 5,000. If I were to go to Amsoil, which weight 15/40 or 0/40 or 5/30?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Where do you live, how cold does it get? Also, why change something that's working at 179K?

I've only had the truck for a year and the previous owner used whatever was onsale, but stressed to me to use Valvoline PB if I could find it. I live in central NJ so the climate goes from the mid 90's like today down to the low 20's in the winter. I only put about 15-17K mile on a year so if I can change the oil once a year I can probably come out ahead both with respect to money and time. I haven't bought anything yet, just looking over my options, which might be to just keep on doing what I am doing.....

Get set up as a "Preferred Customer" with Amsoil and buy the oil at wholesale Dealer price! I would suggest you use the 15W-40 (AME) eninge oil. Its good for 25,000/1 year drains if you don't tow alot. If you do tow alot, then its good for 15,000/one year. You should also use thier filter (EaO-80) but buying these at the wholesale price is a great way to do it.

with that many miles i would stick with 15w-40. synthetic or the blend is up to you, but, i've been using the full synthetic since my truck had 30,000 and have been changing it every 7500-15000 miles (depending on what kind of driving), and, the truck has 230000 with no engine troubles.

Welcome aboard Chris.

You cant be too far from me, I'm in "the O. C. " :)

I cant comment on the oil, I've stuck to the rotella.
