Do you ever think you can save money by doing something yourself. And halfway throught you break something? Just my luck.

Doing work on my 96. Doing front axle u joint on left side, unit bearing, and ball joints. So i get bearing/rotor off following instructions here. It went okay, plenty of soaking and hammer work. I go to harbor freight and get a shop press so i can do u joints. Of course they give me a wrong box... . so another trip and i am building press.

I remove u joint clips and go to press out u joint and i bend the "ears" on the yoke instead.

U joint still in place. I bent ear on the shorter side, the hub spline side.

So frustrating.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Figured out what i did. When press assembled, the bottle jack was 180 deg rotated, which made it off center. So, i pressed that first side all skiddywampus. My fault.

Fixed press and got ujoint out of axle shaft. The wheel started to squeek a week or so ago, and i jumped on it: regardless the needle bearings were rusted solid and totally dry. Wow!

Bend it back.

Get the joint out, put the ear that needs to bend on your solid surface of choice, and smash it with a hammer.

If it makes you feel better, I did exactly what you did on my 08. The other day a guy brought a shaft in for joint replacement and it required a little straightening. Worked like a champ.
