Finally got around to installing the EZ and DDII's and found my intake manifold cracked and both long bolts significantly bent. It had been broken for awhile. Anybody run across a broken intake manifold? Parts guys want $350 for the manifold alone. Oh well, it is only money.

The results are pretty impressive. I am going to have fun with this. I have the EZ on #1 setting and I am saving up for a new clutch.

Wen you say intake manifold....

do you nean the aluminum tube that bolts in just above the grid heater (I call it the air horn), or the steel plate below all of the fuel injection lines?

If it is actually the air horn, perhaps you can find one from a member who installed a Banks High Ram air horn in its place.

Cummins makes the air horn, not Dodge, so I bet it will cost 1/2 that price if you just call your local Cummins shop. Don't buy it from Dodge!

Or you can always see if someone has a used one for sale. I know these things used are plentiful up here because of guys buying the Banks air horn.

Then again if you're willing to pay $350 for a new air horn, you may as well just buy the Banks one (about $300) it looks better. Bully Dog also has the Banks type air horn too.

OK guys, let's ALL get on the same page here:

INTAKE MANIFOLD = where the air goes INTO the engine - on our diesels, that's on the DRIVER'S side of the engine...

EXHAUST MANIFOLD = where the USED air is expelled FROM the engine, then to the turbo, then thru and out the rest of the exhaust system - this is on the PASSENGER side of our trucks!

Are we all together now?;) :D

OK, then lets decide WHICH we are discussing here, and see if we can get back to the thread topic... ;) :p

*I* would assume (dangerous!) that since changing injectors is involved the lead post is referring NOT to the manifold itself, but the air horn ATTACHED to the manifold...

(if I'm wrong, that'll be TWICE this year already... );) :D

LMAO!!! That is a good one! The banks muffler must add 4 more then too!

KIN I use *2* of them there Banks air horns, and get *16* psi boost? and another coupla psi if I *chrome it* instead of just painting it?:D

I hear that they have this new fangled deal called welding ;) ya know I bet some one could just fix it right up and much cheeper than $350 too, more like 40-50 to have it tig welded up

Thanks for the replies.......

Thanks for all who replied. I was without a computer last night so I am a little late getting back here. It is the cast piece above the heater grid. DD called it an "intake manifold" (or maybe upper intake). I am going to keep the broken and maybe have it welded in case this becomes a chronic problem. A little brainfade caused me to forget about the Cummins Parts aspect. Surpised the heck out of me when it came off in 2 pieces and the 2 bolts are dog-legged.

As far as the EZ and DDII's go, I kinda like it. Power is a bit more explosive. With the 6-speed, it is just a couple of seconds and it is time to shift. Redline comes quickly. Fifth gear is going to be a great passing gear in the rural roads here.
