We started our 2001. 5 Dodge Cummins automatic with 31,000 miles on it and started driving, when we noticed the transmission had a whine coming from it which finally disappeared after 20 minutes. We never tow with the truck, now we are wondering is the transmission going? Should we have gotten the 5 speed manual? Does anyone else have an intermittent whine in their transmission? Is this the beginning of the end?

Thanks

I had a whining transmission noise, but, only when in 4th gear OD. As I told them and the service manual indicated, the OD thrust bearing in the external OD unit was going. Bearing cost was $49,

Your almost out of warranty, at 36,001, you will only here, "wow, we can't do much for you, this truck is way out of warranty"

DC- "Gee, we think its in the engine or drivetrain" $$$$$$ then "Gee, we think its the Transfer case" $$$$$$$ Then "we think its the transmission" $$$$$$$$ then " Gee, you may be right, it may be just the OD unit" $$$$$$$$ then "Gee, well we dropped the whole transmission even though you told us the external OD unit is removable w/o dropping the transmission"$$$$$$$ then" "Gee, you spun the OD bearing"

ME- How Much $$$$,

DC- $1750 ++

ME- %^@*(*#())!_#@)(#((#)@@**

Please folks, Laugh with me, I got screwed !!!

Ron

PS- A new 47RH OD unit is $1300, Go figure
