Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Whistling Dixie??

[newb question]Yesterday went and pulled out the K&N filter (in original air box) on my 96. As would be expected from my P/O, it was well beyond the "need to clean" point. Washed it down, let it dry (overnight), oiled it back up. Late this afternoon I took the truck out and was buzzing around town and I hear intake whistling from the intake side of the cab. This is a new sound to me in this truck... Is it usual to have this whistle from the stock box? I don't see any cracks in the box, the lid is seated properly and all the clamps are in place...

Absolutely. I'm not a big fan of oiled filters in these trucks so I'm partial. But I agree with Jesselee, remove ye' olde silencer ring and get a BHAF and she will make some really nice noises.
