Quick survey from those of you who own either a white or metallic silver sport. I'm undecided on which color to go with. I'm looking for a color which is easy to maintain and shows scratches, swirls marks and rock chips the LEAST.

I currently have an emerald green truck, nice color but it shows the dirt very easy and every little scratch, swirl mark, etc. (perils of owning a dark color). The lite colored primer under the paint I think mainly attributes to showing the scratches.

Any problems with durability with either of these two colors. I ask because the driftwood center band on my '95 is starting to blister and peel off (guess this not so uncommon of a problem with this color for Chyrsler).

Any input will be very helpful.

The bright (clearcoat) white seems better than my previous driftwood dually about showing minor scratches and swirl marks. It does seem to chip easily, however, and if you're considering a dually, the paint on the rear fender extensions is about 1/2 a shade off from the paint on the metal portions of the truck. Also, certain varieties of bug splatters on the front tend to stain the paint - the yellow is hard to work out.

I buy white for resale value. Folks are sometimes opinionated about colors but you can generally sell a white vehicle to anyone. Plus, in our neck of the woods, it's cooler. I have seen the white sports and I think they are sharp!

I really like the white. :D I thought it would be really difficult to clean however its very easy to take of.

I think either color would be a good choice. Good Luck. If you would like to see it... I fuel up at flying j. I could meet you their. Just e-mail me (I live near DIA).

I have a white Sport now and I love it. The front is hard to keep clean from bugs in the summer. The white does hide the dirt well (as can be expected for gravel roads). Very hard to see scratches unless they are really deep. My paint is starting to chip a little at the fenders, but I don't believe it is because it is white. Big tires and rocks have more to do with it. Now having said all that, I will go with silver next time just because I think it looks cooler.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I've had both white and silver so here are my thoughts:

White

-easy to keep clean ; doesn't show dirt

-doesn't show swirl marks from waxing easy

-doesn't show scratches easily

-even when it is waxed, will never look super flashy like a darker color

-needs customization as white is pretty "blah"

-discolors easily with yellow bird droppings, exhaust fumes or spilled diesel fuel out of gas cap

Silver

-dodge's driftwood looks great in sunlight

-always looks clean

-does show some swirl marks

-heard that it fades over the years if not waxed. My dad's grey Mercedes did, several dark grey splotches on a light grey car. He still maintains his M/B is better car than my truck...

-black accessories look good on it so you can save over chrome add-ons.

These have been my experiences. I think depends on how much time you intend to spend on keeping it clean.

White !

White is white, never fades to a dull gray like silver does. Had a silver car and faded to a dull gray. Bodyman told me that there is too much metallic in the paint that is why silver turns dull. Do not know the validity of this theory but, I like white!

Here's my 2 cents worth...

I own a 2001 silver sport, not driftwood, and it contrasts well with most extras I put on. For example: silver & black tires, silver & black tint, silver & black hood inset, silver & black step rails, silver & black door strip... I park it outside all the time and get bird droppings, tree droppings it doesn't seem to be as noticable as my previous white blazer. As for chips and the like there is a pretty functional product out there the is made up of an optically clear pliable plastic sheet that's adhivesive backed and cut to size for the big RAM face our trucks have. I've had pretty good success with it, but I need to see it weather a couple more seasons to be 100%. If it means anything on the news recently SILVER was the most popular color this last year, just edging out white for the first time. That may be a more telling sign as to what the public wants, espically if it come to resale down the road. As for me I biased, I love gray-silver-slate-gun metal-smoke.....

good luck.

White vs Silver

I have worked in the paint business a long time ago and would not buy certain colors. Green, Reds, Silvers because of the following reasons. Green and Red are organic pigments and will deteriorate or discolor under the sun. The silver is an aluminum pigment that hides extremely well. So you never know if the coating is consistant. There could be thin spots and never know until several years down the road.

I have had two white trucks a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 QC TD and a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 QC HO-TD. They are easy to clean and keep clean. When you touch up a white truck, the touchups fade into to surrounding areas. White has the greatest reflective properties and will not degrade as quickly in time. With the clear coat, colors now fade slower so you shouldn't see the discoloration you would see on some older vehicles.

White has the highest resale value, white is 15% cooler than the next closest color, white dissipates the heat as it travels down the road. White is easier to keep clean, hides the dirt, scratches, swirl marks well.

No matter which color you select, there will always be paint chips, rocks, road gravel, sand, etc. I drive often to Idaho and they put sand on the roads for traction. When you pass a large semi, the back wheels are pelting the front end of the truck with the sand mixed with snow. But touchups are quick and easy and after a couple waxings, the paint looks fine.

I recently purchased a white truck with the silver, two tone paint. I like it a lot. There is so very little contrast on the new trucks (lack of molding) that it helps break up the monotonous white, white, white!

I am sold on white, because in the winter I can drive down the road and be invisible with the white snow. No really, the choice is ultimately yours, but this is the reason I selected white and will continue to purchase white. I have had red (oxidized), green(oxidized and couldn't touch up because of fading), blue (scratches everywhere), yellowed white(aged) and my father has a black one. Beautiful, but does it ever show the scratches!!!

Anyway that's my two cents worth. Hope you enjoy your new truck!! ;) ;)

I do not have a white truck now but did have at one time. I think white looks expensive. Tint the windows, aluminum wheels and wash and some wax and it seems like they look new forever.

I'am back to finish my point. The white with silver on the bottom is my favorite. One problem with all white trucks is when they get alot of gravel miles on them they tend to show more gravel rash. The red truck look great clean and shiny, but get a dirty film on it and it looks blah. The silver truck is great all around but haven't had it that long to judge the in's and outs. I'am sure you'll be happy with either color.

Love my Silver Sport..... love it love it love it! I will admit that it shows scratches in the clear a little more that a white truck-but I still love the way it looks... .

I am biased, I own a white sport. If I had to do it again I would buy another white sport. I would also get bedliner shot on the rockers right away. I have had chipguard sprayed but I think in the spring I will have bedliner shot because the rocks are knocking the chipguard off and big chunks of paint!

I really wish I could have got a truck $ 5,000 less with NO paint and had a speed shop paint the truck!

White all the way - A true classic color you can't go wrong with. Best resale, easiest to maintain, doesen't fade or show scratches or chips as bad as the other colors, looks extremly sharp with tinted windows and nice wheels, etc. IMHO it is the sharpest looking color on the RAM as well as many other makes/models.

Go White, mine is almost 2 years old and shines better than new. Looks great with black nerf bars and mud guards. Get the cab lights,I have still not seen another white sport with cab lights and it looks sharp!!!

Bright Silver

... ... ... . but then, i guess i'm in the minority. i'm not a white vehicle fan..... personal preference. LOVE MY SILVER SPORT... ... :D

White... BORING! I wished I had never bought this boring color again! Oh yes, it showes stains at it gets old and some scratches are easier to see.

And speaking of city utility vehicles.....

My wife doesn't care for the white either, but one thing really pi*sed her off the other day. She stopped in at a local drug store, then when she came out she found a note on the windshield saying "please don't park your construction vehicles here" (there was building going on across the street). That really turned her off more to the (lack of) color.

Resale value?? A used Cummins sells, period! My vote is for the silver.

Have a great white. Like it. LOVE the bright silver on the sport. Looks classy. Silver hides the light road grime better than white. If there is ever a new truck in my future (2003) It'll be silver. Flip a coin; your call!
