Need help with 98 ISB with 200K miles on it, having an increase in hard starting in the morning, 40 degrees outside. Extended crank time and after it fires off white smokes for a while. I let it warm up for 10 minutes and began to drive after a quarter mile or so it clears up and runs fine. No other problems though the day. Fuel pressure is fine, so I'm thinking the injectors are bleeding off over night or they are dribbling fuel. Am I crazy or what should I look for? I'm new at this so any help would be a great help.

Thanks Robert

You might want to check continuity on the air heater grid. It is supposed to be activated around 40 deg and below on start. JMTCW

rkr,

Check the rubber supply and return fuel lines. They can have cracks that let air enter but do not leak fuel. They are a real PITA to change too. Go HERE and you can purchase HD starter contacts there also.

Also do a search on white smoke/hard start.

Good luck!

Robert, Have your truck scanned for codes. White smoke on start up is also a symptom of a failing VP44 injection pump :(

and you are describing other symptoms too :{
