It's been getting a bit chilly here in So Cal lately (50's) and I've noticed that when I go out to start the truck, it lets out a cloud of white smoke and it surges for a few seconds. Seen the heater cycling, but the wait light only comes on when it gets real cold (40's) I've noticed. Anyone have any idears? Once it warms up, all is well, it's just starting up when like sitting overnight. I already had TSB 18-003 whatever that pertains to charging the battery, overhead mpg and whatever it was (I forgot). First diesel, and loving it.

It's completely normal. The temp is at the point where the heater grid doesn't come on and stay on but cold enough to cause the fuel inside the combustion chamber to not burn efficiently leaving white smoke. The third injection event for warming up the CAT isn't helping matters either. If the smoke didn't clear up then you would have something to worry about.
