Hi Guys,

I was just curious if anyone has experienced any white smoke on start-up after letting there truck sit for a few days. I don't drive mine that much, and when I let is sit for more than 3-4 days, when I start it up, I will get a cloud of white smoke. It clears up immediately, but the first initial firing gives white smoke. Any ideas?

That is an issue since the 04. 5 325/600 came out. There is a TSB that they claim to take care of it. As I have seen in other posts and with my own truck, the TSB didnt really do much for the smoke but more for the mileage. My truck now has 14k on it and the smoke is gone. I really don't know when it quit doing it, but I followed my wife out of the driveway a month ago on a really cold morning and it wasn't there at all.

Thats about all I can say. It may not be the same in other cases but mine is now flawless. (knock on wood) :D

White smoke on startup

It's caused by one or more bad injectors. With the exception of the prior post, I have never heard of it getting better,... usually it only gets worse. It needs to sit over the weekend at your dealer's and let them start it up cold.

If you move to Phoenix, your Ram won't make white smoke anymore, at least not in the summer. :D I have an early 4. 50 325/600 that didn't come the the TSB. I had white smoke when it got cold in Phoenix. (Under 40 deg F. ) I had the TSB installed this summer. I'll find out when it gets "cold" if I still smoke.

My understanding is that the white smoke is unburned fuel, while black smoke is incompletely burned fuel. I figured in warm Phoenix this wouldn't be a problem. It was quite impressive, however. I am sure the people in the lane to the right of me didn't appreciate the diesel bath. Try the TSB, it alsoimproves fuel mileage by 1 to 2 mpg.
