Could someone please tell me why a '96 model smokes excessively when you crank it after it sits over night or longer. This is white smoke and it does it worse when its cold outside. Thanks I would appreciate the info.

It's probably incomplete combustion of fuel. The cylinders aren't hot enough on a cold start to burn all the fuel right away. As long as it's not an oil puff it's fine.

^They are both correct.

Mine does it too, got worse with bigger injectors because more fuel is being dumped in and it's not burning it yet until it warms up some.

Timing bumped to 15-16 will make the largest difference..... or just plug in the block heater.
