White smoke pouring from exaust pipe

I hope you guys can help with this one. Two of my friends have 2000 3500s. Both have 354 gears. One is an auto and the other is a six speed 4X4. They both have had 275 RV injectors since they were practically new. The truck with the auto also has the VA box which works very well.

Today we took the VA box out because tomorrow the truck is going to the dealer for a problem in the rear end. Growling noises.

We then installed the VA box in the Six speed truck. Before I forget this box has been in this truck before. When we first got the VA box we tried it in a few different trucks. However when we installed it today and went for a test drive, it was pouring white smoke out the exaust. If you stop and Idle for a few seconds then take off, it would blow so much smoke out as you went through the gears that you could not see anything behind you. The truck ran very smooth and was making good power with the box however.

When we got back and parked the truck. A few minutes later we noticed several rather large puddles of oil underneath the front of the truck. The oil was comming from the drivers side of the engine, somewhere. Their was oil all over the fuel lines on the back of the pump and dripping everywhere. We unpluged the VA box and went for another test drive. The truck was back to normal. We went to the car wash and cleaned the engine, went home and checked for leaks. No leaks. This has us very puzzled. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Plugging or unplugging a box wouldn't have anything to do with oil. ?????

Puzzling for sure.

Somethings gotta be loose under there and getting bumped -- but oil coming from the engine area would have nothing to do with blowing massive smoke through the tailpipe.

I once blew oil all over the engine area when one of the "Five Screws Loose Dealers" didn't reattach an oil feed line. I'd just check all the connections you can.

The blow by tube could have come loose from the front and spewed oil over the hot engine and exhaust leaving a nice white cloude behind the truck as you drove it giving it the optical illusion of smoke from the exhaust?? Just a thought.

If you ever knock the bearings out of a turbo you will see those clouds of smoke! You will also have oil dripping out of the exhaust, and need to add by the gallon. If removing the VA took care of the problem, it obviously isn't the turbo. I think the addition of the VA and smoke generation must have been coincidence. Good Luck! If nothing else, put the VA back on and see if the problem re-appears. Ray

Thanks for the replies guys. There is something I forgot to mention in the origional post. I didn't think it was relevant. Before we installed the VA box we also installed a larger oil blow-by bottle to the frame rail beside the transmission. Once the bottle was relocated I didn't think to blow through the line to make sure that there was no restriction. Well long story short, it was way too restrictive. Once we opened up the top of the bottle more, the truck ran wonderful. No more white smoke and no more oil leak. When I found this I felt like a real idiot. I consider myself to be a good mechanic, however you are going to make stupid mistakes every now an again.

The engine runs so much smoother with the VA box. In 20 degree weather the truck starts easier and runs smoother than without the box.

On a side note, we drove the truck around for quite awhile and did several full throttle runs in fifth and sixth gear without any clutch slipping. I was expecting the clutch to slip in sixth for sure. I guess it will handle the power for alittle while before it starts to slip.
