Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) White Smoke, rough idle at startup?

Fellow Rammers:



My 02 3500 started rough this morning with heavy white smoke. Had hesitation low power white smoke til it warmed up. Temp was 69'. Started up at 3:00 PM and did the same thing again. Warmed up and I drove 175 miles no problem. Didn't set any codes. I have DDIIs, TST PM3 Adjustable. HO 6spd.



Anyone have any ideas? Getting ready to go to May Madness next week and don't want any problems.

I'm no expert, but if it was mine, the first thing I would check is if the grid heaters are working.

Parked on a incline? Too much oil ? Letting the motor cool down for long shut down . Most likely not a big deal but keep looking . Ron Bissett in metro Louisville KY

Bad news! VP-44 Dying

Well guys, got the bad news from two sources today: Cummins and my friendly neighborhood five-star. VP-44 is on its last legs. LP fuel pressure is stong (14. 5 lbs pre filter, 13 post filter). Just over 40K miles on the clock. Dealer requesting approval to replace VP-44 under warranty. Fingers crossed; will know Monday.



BTW: Check engine light never came on but I clicked key 3-times and it read ECM 1693 and PCM 217. Code 217 injection pump not responding to timing signal. I didn't know diagnostics on 02 read the PCM codes?



Well, all I can say is wahhhh!
