I know of Herd, Ali-Arc, Ute, and Denver Off Road.

Are there any other places making aluminum bumpers?

Want one for the new truck

Thanks,

Matt

Matt - can't add anything useful. Love my DOR. How's the new truck?! Did you sell your second gen?

Take care man

The Reunel stainless steel doesn't weigh much more (about 180 lb),is very strong, and won't corrode like aluminum. It does cost more, though.

Joe -

What type and grade stainless do they (Reunel) use? A/SA240 Tp 304 ? Tp 316? I would be interested to know. Also, can you elaborate on your 'won't corrode like aluminum' statement? Are you refering to unprotected Al or the powdercoated bumpers? I didn't realize that the stainless bumpers were only 180 total pounds.

I have always wanted their bumper, like the design best but they are a bit spendy. My DOR was a hand-me-down and I got a great deal...

At one point did Reunel have a QC problem with their products or am I confusing them with another company??

Reunel uses 304 stainless and spends 40 hours polishing it after construction. Sure, powdercoated aluminum or mild steel do OK, until rock chips and wear remove the protective coating. All depends on hw corrosive your atmospheric conditions are.

I don't know of any problems with Reunel quality. I am totally satisfied with my front and rear stainelss Reunel bumpers.

Decided to go a different route.

Having a shop in Wyoming make me a modified version of their standard bumper, then having it rhino lined.

This bumper will be steel, but does not weigh a ton, which was why I was looking at aluminum in the first place.

It's not going to be cheap, but in the long run I think it will work best for me.

Jason, The new truck is awesome. Traded in the 02, somebody's getting a nice surprise when they buy it, I left the 4" exhaust, HRVP, and South Bend FE on it.

Joe D - thanks for the info. sending you a pm.

Matt - yeah, your 02 was a sweet ride, let me know when you get the new pusher on your truck, who is doing the welding??

FG - DOR pics are in my reader's rigs. I don't think they have a website but Layne's contact info is floating around somewhere. If you can't find it let me know.

Ali-arc - http://www.aliarc.com/pickupbars.html

I'm sure their is more out there. .

I got a UTE Bullbar about a year ago. It's great. I do have to polish it now and then with Mother's Mag Wheel polish. I'm not sure what it weighs, but I could lift it myself and install it myself.

Not much worried about my matte finish powder coated DOR oxidizing. notwithstanding, I'd rather have oxidized alumium than oxidized, i. e. rusted steel. Nice looking bumpers, less expensive, will do the job I need it to do, at least 60lbs lighter than the Reunel, and easier on the front end steering and suspension. Layne is a CTD owner, i. e. CTD brother, a great guy to buy from and talk to, and a small time operator who works hard to make a living running his own business. I have his number over at the house. If you have any back issues of TDR, check the vendor index in the back. The earlier 40s and late 30s have his former number in Fruita, but should give you his new number.

But to each their own preference.
