Aluminum Engines for Trucks: Good, Bad, or Ugly?

I read LSD and I was trying to figure out what it was other than the drug :-laf Low Sulphur Diesel. . derr.

It's ULSD at the Pilot where I fill up.

Just filled up tonight and the Safeway where I get mine now has the ULSD sticker on it. It wasn't there a few weeks ago.

Yep, we can still get it here for now. Question though, we're supposed to start getting ULSD in January. For those guys running it now, what are you adding for lubricity and where are you getting it if you do? Mines an 02' suppose Ill need an additive?

Our supplier at work (Pettit Oil) informed us that any ULSD purchased from them, or from a pump they supply, will have all necessary lubricity agents/additives pre-mixed before the fuel leaves the yard... .

We usually run Power Service, Howes, or Lucas additives at work...

In my old 24v '99 I used Stanadyne or Howes. This is the first winter for my new/old truck--been using up my last few bottles of Stanadyne PF; will probably switch over to what we get at work--cheaper that way. :)

Several new stations that have been built locally have ULSD, most of the truck stops I have been to have had ULSD. It does have a different smell and less black smoke. The smoke is more gray like when I have run kerosene or burnt motor oil and there is less smoke overall. I suppose it is doing its thing and lowering emissions. I am all for that if it will allow us to have diesel choices here, like Europe!

I remember someone said that they had been hauling ulsd here since June. The stickers on the pumps just hadn't been updated yet. Just because it says lsd may not mean it is, it may take a few deliverys to make sure it meets the 15ppm for ulsd and the new sticker is installed.

I was looking at www.flyingj.com to check fuel prices and noticed that they offer both types and the ULSD was N/A and gave a price for LSD. I need to fuel up tomorrow and that is where I usually fill because they are cheaper than anywhere else in town.
