Just got my dually and am planning down the road to get probably 255/85/17. I only tow motorcycles, so that is not a problem.

Is 255-85-17 a new size? I've only heard of 255-85-16. One problem you may run into is that you may need to get some spacers for the rear tires. The 255's are wider and may put them to close together. If it is a new size I don't know what the tire dimensions would be for sure. I have BFG Mud T/A's in 255-85-16 on my Ford and they fit fine. If I had them, 33-12. 50-16. 5 would fit fine also, so you'd probaly be O. K. If you're curious, or have money burning a hole in your pocket, Rickson Truck Accessories has tires that fit on 19. 5" rims for Dodge and other trucks. I also found in Powerstroke Registry that (www.worldwheels.net) has tires on 22. 5" rims w/lift kit for the same vehicles(PRICEY:--) ), but neat. :)

I haven't found anyone that has made that size yet, I'm sure there will be. Thanks for the advice.

I put 255/85/16 on 02 dually without any spacers

I have about 3/4" gap between duals

I dont know if the offset would be the same on the 03

that is what you will want to check

I also have 255/85 R16's on my 2002 one-ton. I got the new BFG Mud Terrain KM's. They look great with about an inch of spacing between the duals. Amazingly, I think they actually handle asphalt better than the stock michelins that came on it. Toolman Taylor has some picks of his one ton with these same tires that was posted in a similar thread in the Off-roading forum awhile back. Do a search there and you should find it.
