Here I am

Who here has specifically had a good experience with Bosch 190 injectors...?

Part number for cooling system elbows?

Just a heads up on a personal situation....

Why? Because I just pulled mine in my 4BT and guess what. . It runs 10 times better, much better power, easily 3-5 lbs more boost (25 instead of 20 max), and it just all around runs better and stronger -- using the STOCK injectors. 4BT is supposed to be identical to 6BT including injectors I'm told. But I compared injectors and it seems the 190's have a shorter nozzle than the stock 185s (I believe what 4BT's came with). My 4BT is a '92 so it should be identical to a Gen 1 6BT. The ones I removed were clearly Bosch and I believe had 857 stamped into them...

So I am exstatic, I feel like the engine was sluggish before I swapped back to stock. . Strangely enough...

Are you stock injectors 9mm tipped or 7mm tipped? Did you have to use adaptor sleeves with the 190's?

I wouldn't think you had 185's as stock for a what, 120hp engine?

exactly, the 120 hp engine but you have to remember its a 4cyl so it's perfectly logical that it uses the same injectors as a 6BT from the same year (1992) so that is what I ordered. It came with basically the injectors and an install kit from PDR. The Bosch 190's were about 3mm SHORTER than the OEM Bosch 4BT injectors. Again I didn;t figure this out until I pulled them the other night. The PDR guy said "use the shortest washer" referring to the copper gasket between the head and the injector of course but I could never figure out why he recommended this. Even so, it is still not enough to bring the injector close enough to stock.

So I cannot say if the injectors flat out suck or it was the wrong application. I think it was the wrong application given PDR's great repuation of course. But it really is amazing the differnce in power. So much better with the stock injectors...

I forgot. With any aftermarket injector its best you advance your timing a bit for the higher pop pressures that is associated with bigger injectors. I'm sure your stockers pop at a lower pressure than the 190's.

Did your idle drop any when you installed the 190's? If so, you might up the fuel on the pump to take advantage of the bigger sticks.

I did advance the timing as well. My guess is maybe they sent me 7mm tips when I needed 9mm. I'm planning on calling Piers next week some time to see what they say. .

If you needed 9mm tipped injectors, the only way to install 7mm tip injectors is by way of adaptor sleeves. Did you use adaptor sleeves? If you did, that would explain the difference in power.

"so it's perfectly logical that it uses the same injectors"

Well it may be but Cummins sometimes does things the other way. Seems like I remember some earlier discusssion of the tip length. There is probably a tip which has the right length. To a certain extent, you are on your on when you start interchanging stuff. This definitely applies to anything Bosch.

FWIW, I am quite surprised at your results... . I have driven a 1st Gen truck with those same injectors in it and they performed quite well... . I did find that the power/feel of the performance increase was a much smoother response... . it wasn't a "wild or radical" jump but rather a nice even improvement.

They dyno'd out at a solid 5-7 RWHP more than the 185 injectors produced, which is were the label "190's" came from.

This is kinda wierd. Give a call to PDR and talk to Harry if you can... . his was the truck that tested the 190's in... .

pb... .

EDIT: ... I wonder if there is much of difference in popoff pressures in the 190's... . perhaps that may be a contributing factor... . as a pump wear's it is less able to quickly and smoothly raise the injector/line pressures to open the injector properly.

Perhaps that is also a consideration too..... just thinking out loud here guys... .

thank you guys. Still been very busy but if I remember tomorrfow @ work I'll call PDR tomorrow. Somewhat low on cash right now with lots of projects to do so I sold them already, unfortunately. Now I'm regretting it... :(
