Hi Folks,

My buddy in Mesa AZ is on his 5th automatic transmission. I need some opinions on who makes the most bullet proof 48RE automatic transmission.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I think Goerend is only doing parts now . Don't quote me on that call them they can give you a reputable rebuilder that uses their parts . I did that and am very happy.

Fred Swanson in Waddell AZ would be close to him and does top qulaity work.

When I had my '05(sure miss her)Fred installed a DTT shift controller to minimize the annoying 1-2 stutter shift. While we were test driving the truck, the owner of DTT(Bill?)called Fred's cell phone to see how the install went. That was pretty impressive followup, I thought. Fred is a sharp guy.

If you get Fooled 3 and for times it safe to say you voted for Obama!

wow, I wouldn't have went that far, lol. But Amen to that!

Back to the transmission though. I agree with all these guys. The 48RE is not that hard to rebuild. He either has way to much torque and keeps getting a stock rebuild/transmission. Or, he just plain ole got a bad shop. For 2K in PARTS you can get one rebuilt to hold at 1000 ft/lb or higher, and last hundreds of thousands of miles. Unless it's under 100% abuse.
