Looking for a hotshotter or hauler

Anyone on here that could tow my 94 2500

I just got a new boat that weighs approx 12k and i have to go pick it up next week and im wondering if my hitch is ok and what reciever to use. any help would be greatly appreciated . I need to get what ever i need by the 10th nothing like waiting till the last minute  but i thought mine was rated for more... Can i just get a pintl ball combo rated for more ?

When you go above the weight rating by any significant amount over many miles the receiver will stretch out and the pin hole will get wallowed out. A stronger ball mount won't change that.

if I recall correctly the factory hitch isn't rated real high... seems like it was 10k# using wt distribution. On my last 2 truks I upgraded to Putnam XDR's from Southwest Wheel. Reese also makes a pretty stout hitch. I'd find out what's on the boat trailer to make sure you get the right connection on the truk end... whether pintle or ball... and what electrical connection.

I'd upgrade... and go to a class V, but that's just me. If Johnny Law catches you over the hitch weight... you may have just paid for another hitch.

Trailer Hitch

might be better places to look, but the above is where I've gotten all my hitches.

i was just looking im gonna order a class V tomorrow then what a bout in the reciever pintle ball combo or do you reccomend something else...

I'd just get a solid steel ball mount that matches the weight rating of your new hitch.

Like here,

Solid Steel Ball Mount

and a 2 5/16" ball rated to the same amount or higher

like

30K Hitch Ball

No reason for a pintle hitch unless you need it for another trailer.

whatever is rated high enough for the load... and fits your personal preference. I use a height adjustable 3 ball combo... if you like the pintle combo I have not heard any reasons to avoid them... it usually comes back to personal preference.

its a Myco boat trailer i dunno if anyone has one and what height to use, may just get the pintle because i may have other uses for it ...

Myco could probably tell you what the height you need will be, the top of the ball on my truck is about 22" from the ground, works pretty good on most boat trailers. Myco makes a great trailer. What kind of boat are you getting?

A friend has a dealership so I've moved a few Myco's around.

Ask what they recomend and take the tools to adjust, or get one on each side of it. Hve gone to get new trailers only to have gotten the wrong advice and hit it on the curb etc on the way home, not my trailer but owner wasn't very happy none the less. You can always return the hitches you don't need.

just got a new fountain. I thought my hitch was rated for more and its not  now i gotta run around nothing like waiting till the last minute #@$%!

I've seen some 2 1/2 receiver hitches at the local farm store..... these get you to the 15,000lb range and past.

I always go for a little safety margin... .

Yeah, the OE 2nd gen hitch was rated at 500/5000 non-WDH and 1000/10000 w/WDH...

There are several class 4 and 5 hitches on the market now...

Putnam has a class 5 rated for 15,000 with 1500# on tongue, or a thousand more if you have a WD hitch. I got mine from Amazon.com delivered for around $175. Also found an aluminum stinger (6" drop) on ebay that matched the hitch specs. #ad
randpcarriages on ebay has some nice aluminum hitch ball mounts.

I would just order the Putnam XDR. I had the same problem when I bought my 12,000 gvw equipment trailer. The factory receiver is only rated at 5,000 without w/d. Stupid but all the manufacturers do it. I like the XDR better anyway, for one thing the receiver tube is below the cross tube instead of going through it. This means all but the tube tucks behind the bumper instead of hanging below it like the stocker. One thing to think about is I was not able to find a ball mount within a 100 mile radius of my house in Northern California that was rated for more than 8,000 ponds and only found 1 ball good for 12,000. I ended up placing a second order to Southwest Wheel for the ball mount. If I where doing it again I would just order the whole mess from Southwest. This hitch is great. I had to have my truck pulled backwards from the mud and snow next to my house and the ball mount hit the edge of the pavement stopping both trucks and bent the ball mount about 5 degrees just below the receiver and the XDR is fine, no damage at all. One more thing after installation the center of the receiver is within 1/4 inch of the factory height.
