Sneaky Northern Tool

I am moving while I am taking vacation and I started assembling my tools that are scattered in places around the garage. Anyone every think about how much $$$ they have wrapped up in automotive tools? I hate to think what life would be without them though!:D

I started out with a basic SnapOn set. The rep came to our tech school to offer a set (no more, no less than what was on the list) for HALF PRICE. I shoulda' bought more kits. Kept adding on till the boxes went condo:eek: 1 base cab, 1 top cab, 2 mids and 3 sides! I cannot see the top and need to step on a 8x8 block to see the top tray (and I'm 6'-4") All makes now in one form or another- SnapOn, Mac, Matco, Craftsman. I will never part with them- would cost too much to replace. Prolly worth about $12K.

The only reason I continue to own a snowplowing business and residential roofing business is to be able to justify the purchase of any tool I wa... . , ahem, need! Yeah, need. Uh huh, yep, got to NEED those tools.

At last count replacement cost of my Matco 1340 box and its contents(plus the stuff that has now overflowed into the surrounding shop owned cabinets) is just under 22K. My Matco man wants to give me about $800 more than I paid for the box 12 years ago as a trade in allowance. The problem is that the replacement box will cost more than double what the 1340 cost new. I'm still trying to find a reasonably price road chest that will fit on top of my current rollaway. I don't consider the $1900 quote:eek: I got for a new one reasonable. Can't justify as high of a tool account balance now that I'm only wrenching part time.

I probably have more than $15k in mechanics hand tools, about $5k in power tools and around $25K in shop equipment. My dad sold the business and the garage so I took it all home.

Snap-On KRL1003 and KRA60A loaded full of Snap-On tools probably around $32K. Then theres the fab equipment and quincy air compressor that probably comes to another $10K. Drugs are cheaper and less addictive. :D

Well that's certainly true. One thing that comes to mind is the 1/4" electronic torque wrench for torquing the injector hold down clamps. I think there's a lot of pride in it as well. I'm still in that stage where i get a lot of enjoyment doing something just so i can use the tools. I treat them like gold too, i won't set them down on any rough concrete to scratch them.

What are some of your favorite tools? Here are some of mine:

#ad
Locking flex head ratched in all drive sizes.

#ad
High performance wrenches in standard and metric o and 15 degree offsets.

#ad
Right angle die gringer with scotchbrite pads for gasket removal.

Lots...........

I have reciepts for almost $69 000. 00 not including my shop equipment. My Tech has reciepts for almost $260 000. 00. His box is 14' long & 8' tall & crammed to the gills with stuff including lots of Porsche & Mercedes special tools. You should see my garagekeeper's insurance tab every month.

Over 25k easy. Have stuff for Ag, light truck, and heavy truck. And I've only been collecting for 3 years. Worked in all three professions and still don't have everything I need...
