Giant Diesel Equipment? Post 'em if ya got 'em pics

I have a good friend, who owns a 2001 ford F250. He was changing some exhaust parts and the dealer invoice had the Cummins logo on it. He has mentioned to me more than once the fact that "you know, ford owns cummins" I have read through Cummins Inc. annual reports and combed their website. I haven't found one "Ford" in their information. I couldn't find information if Cummins Inc. is a subsiderary or even a tier 1 supplier in either of Cummins Inc. different businesses. So, I'm trying to substantiate that "Ford owns Cummins Inc". Whats the story and where can I get the facts?

Thanks

Keith

No, Ford doesn't own Cummins. BUT, since Ford uses the ISB in some of their heavier applications, they are a Cummins distributor, so they can order and sell Cummins parts.

BTW, I've heard you can get Cummins parts pretty cheap at Ford Heavy Equipment dealerships.

Cummins is owned by it's stockholders but is also in a 50/50 partnership with several companies overseas including Komotsu. Here is a breakdown of the major shareholders http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=CUM

Ford used to own 5% of Cummins shares but no longer does.

I am sure a few folks out there in Diesel Truck Land have seen what I see every day at my job . We have a F-Series Ford 650 or 750 Ford dump truck that has a Cummins in it with a six speed transmission and on one of the valve covers is a BIG blue oval Ford emblem . I can just see the people now that would see that and argue all day long that Ford owns Cummins .

I have heard that the salesman are instructed to use it as a conversation stopper buster. I use to go door to door when I was young and they gave us a book with conversation restarters. If the buyer was vasilating between a cummins and psd it could be a handy sales tool if used correctly. I had one guy tell me a salesman told him the cummins was a two stroke. This was partially what swayed him. They use it to suggest the nav is a better longer lasting motor than the cummins. They dont mention that ford tried to acquire the rights to the motor in 97 and failed.

ownership?
