Who owns Cummins?

Who owns or controls Cummins Company? For years it has been floated that Ford owns Cummins. Anyone know the truth?

Ford had owned a minority share (less than 5%) of outstanding Cummins stock. This was during the time that Ford was building class 8 semi tractors. When Ford stopped building large trucks they sold off the Cummins stock. At that same time Kubota (the Jap equipment company) also owned stock in Cummins. This old story keeps coming back almost has urban legend status and NO basis in fact.

For a while there after the 6-litre disaster, Ford barely owned Ford.

For an accurate analysis, read the book, "Red, Black, and Bold" for an accounting of the success and who owns, controls, and runs the worldwide operations of the Cummins Engine Company which was available for free download to an e-reader, I-Pad, or your computer some time ago; however, I don't know if it still available as a free download.

Thanks for your responses. I thought that I knew the answer but got a call last week that a "trusted source" had stated that F owned Cummins. You all are correct...this will probably never die.

The story will be told by Ford salesmen as long as there are salesmen. You can tell when they are lying because their lips are moving.
