Update on 0.8555 ratio for USG Dual Range Overdrive

I got one of my customers who has a early 98 12V 3500 4X4 that needs his automatic trans gone thru. The truck is used in a green house and beat hard by the morons who drive it. He is going to pull the trans and wants it rebuilt to last, truck has only 60,000 miles on it. Currently it hunts for gears sometimes, and sometimes just won't go. He also is getting the bombing bug, I took him for a quick ride one day;) :D and he has decided to give the morons an old Ford F800 to screw up, and keep the Dodge to himself and add some toys. I would tell him to join TDR, but he has no computer, but that might change after he sees the magazine.

Anyway to the point who builds a solid automatic transmission that will take a beating ? He is going to add a exhaust brake down the road, and he is ordering a 5" exhaust Monday, and some gauges soon.

PS, please no flaming, OK guys,

Thanks

Kyle

first thing to do is find out which companies auto he wants under his truck, search and you will find many heated debates on who is the best but it is your alls decision, then contact that company to see where they have the certified installers.

Call ATS

Call DTT

Call Goerends

GO... with the people you feel most at home with. All the above trans builders are good.

My personal opinion is ATS is the best. I believe their engineering is the most thorough out there. Don or Clint will explain it to anybody who calls.

DTT has a rebuilder in the Angola Indiana area. He did mine and a few friends of mine. Jack is his name. Call DTT

Here we go again...

You can look at my signature and see who I went with. I have no complaints. ATS also offeres a 100,000 mile warranty. You might want to use that as a reference popint.

Suncoast offers unlimited mileage. Personally I chose DTT. However the first thing I would do if I was this individual would be get a computer. Then join the TDR. Then talk about transmissions.

Can anyone tell us what type of warranty's come with these high cost rebuilds ? Who would be authorized to do a repair if I had trouble on the road, lets say I'm hauling and camping with my slide-on ?

Thanks. Ron

I've installed and driven them all. Suncoast has the best track record for feel, lack of installation problems, and reliability. Their warranty says it all.

I went with Suncoast

As my sig says, I went with a suncoast VB and TC. Three year unlimited HP/mileage warranty. I absolutely love it. As to advice for your friend, as most everyone here has said, call around to different companies, visit websites, find folks nearby who have them and get rides.

www.dieseltrans.com

All these companies and more make outstanding products and have great service. This like many other performance aspects is what workds for you and your preference in the end.

Who is the closest?????

That's who I would use. As good as all these companies are problems can happen. And if service is required you don't want to have to wait for shipping or have it towed a great distance.

BD PnP at 20,000

Injectors @ 50,000

New TC and VB at 80,000 (BD) started chattering

New TC (DTT), shift kit and 2nd gear band @ 241,000. nothing else.

I am now at 327,500 and truck still pulls great.

All three are great.

I contribute my success with the auto to Amsoil ATF and LubeGard additive.

I think the quality of the installer is as or more important that the parts you are going to use. I know it was a major factor in my decision. I was lucky enough to have James Northum in my backyard so DTT was my choice and I have absolutely no regrets, money well spent. I think it's hard to go wrong theses days if you stick with a reputable vendor and you can assure a quality installation.
