I have a friend with the new 400? 4 stroke and he really likes it. The only problem I see is the price and availability of parts. KTM sure has came a long way in the last 6 years but it's still no Honda.
 
I road a 300 KTM 2 stroke. very fast. seemed to handle better over rough ground at higher speeds. not real fun at lower speeds (to rough).

I used to race enduro's on a 2 stroke. anymore I'm partial to 4 strokes. they have more consistant power and don't jerk your arms out of the sockets.
 
I race the RMEC enduro circuit, and I'm looking at a 200 exc. My friend has a 300 it is a great bike to ride, I just like the 200 because it's light but still has enough power. Maybe after I win the 200A class overall I will move up.

The one bad thing that comes to mind is the seat foam is as hard as a rock!

if you can get news groups goto:
rec. motorcycles. dirt and you will find out more info on bikes than you will ever need. i think you"ll be happy with the 200. i rode with a guy in idaho with one and he loved it. i ride a kx 500 so the power isn't exactly the same #ad

I had a KDX-200 and was in A-200 class. I dropped out about 5 years ago to persue self employment. But I'm thinking of getting back into racing again. last weekend I ran the white rock enduro. I have not riden in 5 years so I ran in C-Vet. I did not have a watch or my "gost Rider" computer #ad
. first thing I did was follow my brother the wrong way. I was behind 5 minutes at the first check, ahead 5 at the second, behind then ahead then behind. I had fun. I'm running a DR350 with a big bore kit. FMF exhaust and reworked carb. I just need to dial in the front springs. I also will not ride another enduro without bark busters!!! my fingers are killing me.

I was thinking about a KTM, but decided to have Factory Connection do my CR250 suspension and put some money into the bike. I know that they are excellent bikes, price is a little more than most, parts are becoming more available, and they come with the best parts right off the showroom floor. Hydraulic clutch, aluminum bars, linkageless suspension, etc...

I think it's Shane Watts that races them professionally and the only modification he makes is to put handguards on them and go. He raced and won with every model of MXC that KTM makes last year - sometimes on a used tire! I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I had the extra cash lying around.

KTM is outstanding. Going through the woods on any other bike requires a lot of work that you never noticed until riding a KTM.

They are a superior bike according to my friend who has a 380, primarily the suspension he said. You can be running and come up on a small downed tree and ride right over the top of it with some throtle and never feel a thing. Doing that with any other bike would require some fancy riding and alot of low end power.

The 4 strokes are starting to get real popular in all arenas. The Feds are on all 2 stroke motor makers. Now everyone is going to 4 stroke to get the heat off them. Even outboard boat motors are going 4 stroke.

Use to be no one could get the power from a 4 stroke bike like a 2 stroke. Now the bike gurus are starting to get the 4 strokes to run real strong. In the 125 2 stroke class, you can run a 250 4 stroke. The Yamaha 250 4 strokes are smoking the 125 2 strokes and the 2 stroke crowd isnt too happy about it.

Same with the 250 2 cycle classes. The 400 4 strokes that can run in it are giving them a run for their money.

I do when I can get the time. My 360 can be a little tough to start. The newer ones have a relief by the exhaust port to make starting easier. I have a friend with a 300. He lowered the compression ratio so it would run cooler and he still has plenty of power.

Well I got my KTM and let me say I will never own a jap bike again. This bike is very nice. I got a 2000 200 mxc, it will eat my old 125. The thing has so much torque compared to my 125 mx'er.

Tom c- great to hear your back out riding. My next enduro is the 29th in chadren nebraska. With the new bike I hope to pull a top 3. Good luck with your season.

KTM550 2-stroke sounds pretty good too, but expensive and hard to get parts.
