ford Powersmoke Help needed

Latest F-16 to Israel

Just wondering if anyone has some input on building up a Cummins ISX. It's a 2002 KW that has been flashed to the ca. max by Cummins. I'm looking for someone who has done any injector work (possibly some input on having stock injectors honed) or if any one has any experience with running water/meth or propane on an ISX. I have been told by Pittsburgh Power that they are working on an ISX power enhancement product, but they can't narrow down a release date… also been through the unique turbo manifold fitment which kills my options on aftermarket turbo selection. What's a guy to do?

So, Who Runs the Wickedest IXS Out There? Can you please help me out?

Thanks Steve

I've heard from a few folks that the ISX engines (like the Signature 600) have had their share of issues (yearly head-off teardowns in OTR applications?!) - I could never get any details, but would be curious to hear any.

Thanks,

Matt

What was your engine rated at before the uprate, and what are you sitting at now?

You're pre-EGR right?

Stock 565HP now just under 600HP

yes... PRE-EGR

Thanks STC

Hmm..... sorta throws all my idears out the window being as you already have the high horsepower version.

If Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh doesn't build a Pittsburgh Power module for the ISX... . well, short of one-off small shop super custom stuff... can't help ya. Sorry... .

You've probably already thought about this, but there aren't many off the shelf clutches that will keep a center in them much over what a 600hp ISX will put through them, torque-speaking... . not to mention your transmissions. :-laf

We are still trying to get the problems figured out with ours. The shop we're using, is helping get it narrowed down. Apparently, there are solenoids on the side of the engine that control the injectors, and suspect they may be at fault. They getting the tools ordered to test them out. The injectors tested out just fine.

Suposedly, there is a 550hp rerate for our truck, but we've only had it set to 500, from 475. Would LOVE the 550 setting. Pretty sure the clutch will handle it. Feels to be the same as what is on another truck I test drove that had a 550hp C15 and 18spd. VERY heavy pedal, compared to the other trucks we have that are 430hp and down. About as much difference in feel, like comparing a small riding mower to a fullsize diesel pickup truck.

Sounds like I’m not the only one who has a little experience pushing the limits… looks like we will have to try to sweet talk South Bend into a new 18 speed product. :-laf Until then I will keep my fingers crossed that everything holds together. Does anyone know anything about getting my ECM reflashedout out of the US? I heard that Australia had the best program void of any emission hindrances. Australia=BigpowerOo. need to go down under!

Me? No, never... ... all my trucks are stock. :-laf ;)

Either the Aussies or the crazy Canucks might be able to help you out. I don't have any info from either country, but have seen some things pop up now & again at truck shows.

you could probably have some injectors honed out. . or just get the cups and swap them. i never did pull an injector in the isx we had at school [i think you just need to remove the rocker and hold down clamp], but i tore down the injector in like >5 min on the bench. dirt simple [almost as simple as a PT injector]

Modifying the injector wont help much without changing the pulse width of the fuel solinoids. Cummins, Detroit, Cat & Mack got there systems pretty well secured thats why it takes Bruce (Pittsburg Power) so long to make his system work give him time to get it right, the ISX stuff is comming!!!!!

Thanks chuck exactly the info I was looking for ... . but I was hoping that I could work around it. . Where Can I sing up to be a product tester for Bruce, He must need some ISX test dummies out here on west cost :D

The early versions had a cylinder liner/head gasket sealing issue. The update kit replaced the pistons, liners, and head gaskets. You can tell if the engine has the updated parts if there are tabs on the head gasket--they stick out.

That was the reason for the 150,000 mile head pulls. Fixed now. The EGR valves and pipes still cause issues now & again, but for the most part the ISX is fast becoming the most desirable engine out there.
