This'll make you even more proud

Well in the wake of this tragedy, the company I work for has made me "proud" to be a part of it. Read on... .

Union Pacific is offering a dollar-for-dollar match for employee contributions to three relief organizations, made through a special company program. All employees can participate. The three organizations are the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and The September 11 Fund, which has been set up by United Way of New York City. To be matched, employee checks must be dated before Oct. 12, 2001, and mailed with a contribution form or a donation confirmation note if the credit card option is selected by Oct. 31, 2001. Basically if I give $1, then UP gives $1. If I give $100 then UP does the same, and this goes for any amount of money contributed by an UP employee. Theres about 50,000 UP employees across the 23 state system.

I have to say, way to go UPRR! I was truely shocked when I found out about this, but think its a wonderful thing! Is anyone else's companies doing this type of thing??

Thank you, UP

Eric, (I can saythat because I've spoken with him:D ) I know you've probably thought of this but, do you have tha ability to e-mail this to "ALL" employees?

Again, thanks.

I could send it to those with Lotus Notes email yes. But it was "mentioned" by Ike Evans (top guy) today in a message brodcast all over the UP system, and its also been in "UP Online" which is an electronic newsletter that UP publishes.

I won't be at work for another 3 days anyhow, but the company itself is doing what they can to get the word out, not trying to keep it a secret :D Just makes me proud to say I work there is all.

Not to diminish UP actions by any means but a lot of large Companies do this kind of thing as standard policy. We shouldn't need a tragedy like this to remind us.

BASF Corporation, a Germen owned company that I do contract work for, has offered the same deal. Matching all donations, dollar for dollar. This is a great way to give to the relief effort. I gave my donation to a friend that works for BASF so he could give it and get it matched by BASF.

I'm glad to see other companies doing the same. It was just shocking because the past few months all we have heard is how we need to "save" money and cut the budget etc..... then to turn around do this is a heckuva gesture.

Thanks for replying... .

Same here with Caterpillar. $ to $. They also sent 25 3516 generators down to the WTC to provide light during night ops. They have a fleet of 37 dozers on the way from Peoria and sent a new developmental excavator that does all kinds of neat stuff. Its fresh off the line and was heading to the proving grounds until this all happened. They sent it to NYC. It is the only one like it in the World, and from the reports coming in, there is nothing else there that can move the rubble faster than this new machine. Nice to hear.

I work for Applied Materials (We make the equipment that makes semiconductors). They gave $250,000. Then said they will match dollar for dollar up to another $500,000.

Conoco is doing the same thing. Dollar for dollar for what the employees give and 5 cents for every 100 gallons of gas sold worldwide. The 5 cents will raise well over a million dollars to contribute to the cause. Not sure what the employee program will raise.

Kat,,This has been the hardest week on all of us thats for sure,,Since I work for UP's frieght trucking company,OVERNITE,I had to go on with our daily business as hard as it seemed to do,,I left Tuesday for my Phoenix,Az trip from here in central PA amid all the mess and confusion,,I was certainly great full to see what I seen upon the arrival in Phoenix,AZ terminal about UP's decision to match our donations dollar for dollar,,I am also proud to see Big O's management team post the are donating all of our trucking resources to the cause by moving any relief shipments for free and doing it in a speedy manner,,From all of the corporate America that I've read and heard about with donations, its nice to see help from all those that put aside differences to help,,Might be the one bright spot other than finding those who are lost.....
