I have a 2003 with the #1 injector tick and I've adjusted valves, added 2 micron filter, ran everything under the sun through it and it bugs me. I have noticed that my start time is a bit longer when cold so I want to get them checked out. I keep reading about someone named Don M. who tests your injectors and repairs any that may be bad. I'm just looking for an honest person who can check them out so I wanted to contact him.

Thank you

The tick is not constant and varies on the load. When I listen to the line feeding the #1 injector with a screw driver tip and handle in my ear, it ticks pretty loud. I have 70k on the truck and was wondering if you can switch the injector from one cylinder to the other for testing. Is this something that can be done?

Yes, you can swap the injectors around to see if you can track the sound.

F1 Diesel (Don M) ,Industrial Injection, DDP, Exergy Engineering, plus others now have the parts and tools to reman the CR injectors and set them correctly. Just a choice of who you want send your money to. ;)

In most cases its a waste of time & Money... I just had a set that check out form D-P and hey claimed all good. . BS 4 are bad. . the customer had them in and out 3/4 time before he bought new and fix the problem... the host is the correct test. . yes you can move them form hole to hole. How did I know 4 were bad... I install them individually.

I will swap them around and see if the noise follows it. Just didn't want to spend a ton of money replacing them all when I'm only looking for stock performance.

Thank you

Its not that these companies are dishonest (Some Are) it the resources or the equipment is just NOT available. . Some claim they have the same technology as Bosch (Now thats a lie) the equipment necessary to test CR must have some type of explosion and measure the Heat an TQ... just like being installed. Now if the company had a test engine with the bench Machine. I think that would work,You can take ALL the pictures and measure the volume... and come up with with those pretty graphs, thats only 1/2 of the operation of CR Injectors.

So what are my options for buying new injectors? I'm running the Juice with Attitude, Aftermarket air filter assembly (S&B) and no muffler on my 1 Ton Dually 6 Speed. My stock clutch is still working well.

Just out of curiosity, what is the price difference between Cummins original part and having them done by aftermarket?

For the price, at the time it cost me about the equivalent of one new injector to have all six R&R'd. They reuse a lot of the hard parts... which obviously saves $$.

If I do it again, I will buy new injectors and have aftermarket tips installed on them.

I can't answer the question. I have no idea how aftermarket injectors or new tips are priced.

Several years ago when I owned a high mileage '06 I priced a set of Cummins reman injectors from a Cummins dealer. They were about $1700 for six.

I was comparing tips/repairs to new injectors... so the prices are quite a bit different.

Did those Cummins (Bosch) Remans serve you well??

I didn't buy them but they were sold with a warranty so I would have expected them to. I think I read once that for a long time Cummins didn't have adequate numbers of new injectors in circulation and dealers were actually replacing bad injectors with Cummins remans not new ones. I don't know if that was accurate as I have never replaced an injector. I have confidence in Cummins and their parts so would have confidently bought and installed Cummins remans.

I had a strange occasional slightly rough idle and an occasional faint rattle at highway speeds and varying "throttle" inputs. The local dealer's "diesel tech" pretender advised me to use fuel injector cleaner. He was finally fired for incompetence a year or so later. The Cummins distributor service advisor advised me to replace the injectors, and a couple of TDR members advised me to replace the FCA.

Guess who was right as usual . . . the TDR guys. The new FCA cured it.

Later, at over 200k miles, I had an injector performance test done at the dealership where I buy my trucks. They have a Level IV trained and certified diesel tech. The injectors were all in good shape and within tolerance at 200k+ miles. I sold the truck at 230k to buy the one I have now so never replaced the injectors or anything but the FCA.

Did you have the extra filtration upgrades or did they last that long in stock fueling or approximately stock?

Dynomite Diesel can test the injectors thoroughly and they are a Bosch distributor. They can sell you new Bosch injectors and can upgrade the nozzles to Stage 1,2, or 3 at the same time if you wish.

I decided to try the BG Injector cleaning service. My brother-in-law had it done when the BG rep demo'd his tool at his shop. Said it was unreal how much better his truck ran. I will report my results next week after its completed.
