I was justing asking who uses the Amsoil 5w30 diesel oil as opposed to the 15w40 they make for the diesel. I know the owners manual calls for 15w40, but I would prefer the 5w30 for easyer start ups as well as less work on the oil pump (30 vs 40 weight oil). My main question is this: Is the 5w30 to thin after the oil / engine comes up to temp. Also, after the engine is up to temp will the 5w30 be to thin causing the oil pressure to be to low at idling speeds?

I guess this question could go for any brand of 5w30 / 5w40 / 15w40 Diesel oil not just Amsoil, I'm just looking for some feed back on oil weight and oil pressure.

Thanks , Troy

Well, I have used the Series 3000 in my VW Jetta TDI for the past 90K miles with no problems ... but I guess your wanting someone to chime in who use it in their truck.

I use the Amsoil HD 15w-40 in my truck with no problelms ... the Series 3000 is a lot more expensive ... but is it used in may big rigs.

I run the HDD series 3000 5w-30 in my truck. There is no way short of adding a different gauge to know what your oil pressure is doing on these trucks. The factory gauge is a dummy.

I do know that I never plug my truck in even in the winter. It always fires right up and we will see -10 or -20 F once or twice a winter. I also picked up nearly 1mpg on this oil along with amsoil in the diffs and t-case.

My concern for someone living in LA would be heat in the summer. If you are towing a big load and it is 90 or 100 F and humid, I might be concerned about the oil. The 15-40 might be a better choice for hot times of the year, especially if you work it. We rarely get much into the 80's and only for a month or so. Doesn't matter much in my climate.

I've got that in my transmission :D

I use Shell Rotella T 0W-40 in my truck. It started every morning this winter without plugging in once :)

I used the 5W-30 in the 99 I had but the new one I use the 15W-40 when ordered the oil the Amsoil application list did not recomend the lighter weight oil but it has changed now. But I think I will stay with the 15W-40 oil my milage as already improved since I changed the oil.

I wouldn't use it in hot climates. I tried it once in my '01, and when it hit 110 degrees that summer my Cummins did not like it. I went back to 10W40 and haven't been tempted to try it again.

I run it in in my 7. 3 for the reason of the anti foaming part. Where the 15/40 is not rec. for the powerstroke. However I recommended the 15/40 for 2 of my friends 05 CTD. The main reason is the cost. I just spent 125 for 5 gal. compared to 78. I also just change it (5/30) with 28,000,by just changing the filter every 4,000.

Oh It gets hot in vegas and I have never had a problem with the viscosity in the 7. 3

I run series 3000 5-30 in the winter and 15-40 in the summer. it starts a lot easier in the winter. In warmer weather i would use 15-40. I have 170000 on my truck.

I run the series 3000 5w-30 in my Megacab. No complaints and drivablity is great. I don't work this truck as much as my other two. In the other two I use 15w-40.

Ditto what ango said. I runt he the 30 in winter and the 40 in summer. I have used the 30 in summer and as Vaughn mentioned it was too thin for my likes in the high heat.

i currently am running 0w40 synthetic oil... [esso xd-3] i ran that all last summer and will probably continue running it year round. . on a hard run once the oil is as hot as i can get it, i drop to about 18psi idling. . and pretty quickly gains a few psi once the cooler can catch up. .
