first question is will this new 8 speed be able to handle boosted launches with a big tune, nozzles and compounds, or is there gonna be some 48re swaps going on LOL!!!!! but in all seriousness, 6. 2/6. 5 1500's seemed to have sold fairly well for gm hopefully a diesel that looks to be well built and can move it's own ***** out of its way will be a huge money maker for Chrysler, just afraid my big cummins is getting ready to loose a little value due to availability of a half ton diesels and wanning demand of a 3/4 ton just to get a diesel but a price I am willing to pay.

I am waiting for one to hit the lots for a test drive. If I read correctly production will start in July so expect them to show up sometime in late August or later. If the mileage holds true I may let go of my current truck.

According to an add in Autoguide.com I read the other day, Ram announced the EcoDiesel will be a $2850 premium over the Hemi V8 and can expect to see upwards of 28mpg.

Yup!! And all 1st and 2nd Gen owners should've just bought a gasser or a car instead... After all, the HP and TQ #'s for a bone stock Cummins diesel (VE, P7100, or ISB) didn't exceed these #'s until 1999 when they were bumped up to a whopping 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 460 pound-feet (624 N·m).



It has the power to pull heavy, but will lack suspension capacity to handle extreme weights. It's gonna be a winner for people who just want to commute to work daily while benefiting from good MPG and still be able to hook up to a LIGHT TT to enjoy a weekend camping.

Sounds like a cool setup, but like was already stated, a half ton suspension, along with half ton steering, half ton brakes, and half ton wheel lug pattern, I'll be keeping my 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

What I really want to see is small diesels in small trucks, but here in 'Merica for some reason they won't sell according to the bean counters.

I understand a half ton may not be a huge hit among members on sites like this. Obviously were not going to cash in on smaller rv's and trailers just to go buy a half ton diesel. But I'm pretty sure there's going to be quite the niche out there for them. Lots of people that need a full size truck but don't need an HD, and there seems to be more and more people jumping on the diesel band wagon. I think it will be a hot seller, and yet another reason why Ram is emerging on the front lines as a big player in the pickup truck industry.

Very true statements. I didn't intend to come off as an anti towards the truck... . any new diesel on the American market should be cause for celebration.



The power numbers are quite good. Wonder what rear diff it will have?

As I have stated in other threads on this subject, I have been nothing but impressed with our 1/2 ton. In the 50K we have had it, nothing but oil changes and it gets used hard. Sure, it will never have the capability of the HD line, but is very good for what it is. I can't wait to see the diesel in person.

Hopefully Dodge will design the newer 1/2 ton trucks with a slightly bigger payload like the F150's. I visit another forum for Airstream travel trailers and many people who tow bumper pull trailers really don't need a heavy duty truck. By the time you add the tongue weight, hitch and passengers there often isn't any payload left to take misc. items in the bed of the truck (ex. bicycles, grills etc... ) Folks at the other forum are excited to see the 1/2 ton diesel option but need a payload of 1800+ lbs in a nicely trimmed crew cab truck. There are a lot of people using F150's and Toyota because of the Ecoboost engine and bigger payload options.

This will fit my needs as they have changed. I don't have the time to haul the fifth wheel around like I want to due to my job schedule, trying to sell the rv has been unproductive as of late. This year I have been cutting back, way back to prepare for next year when I build my vacation/ retirement house in Colorado. A half ton would fit my needs perfectly and if it hits that 30 mpg mark or more even better. As long as I can haul a small trailer with a Ranger crew ( when I find one ) on it or a couple of snow mobiles things will be ok.

Air suspension can now be had on both 2500 and 3500 models as well. On the 2500s, the airbags will fully replace the standard suspension’s coil springs, while in the 3500 the bags will work in tandem with the truck’s leaf-sprung suspension.

The air suspension is shown on Ram's site now, looks like it's what people have been asking for for years. The 2500 will get a coil spring REAR suspension similar to the 1500, and the 3500 will retain the leaf spring setup with air springs working as helpers. It appears the 2500/3500 air suspension will only be on the rear.

If the 1/2 ton ecodiesel had been around when I was in the market for a 1/2 ton, that would have been a no brainer. I ended up going with an F-150 with the ecoboost. Its a great truck, has gobs of torque for 3. 5 v6 gas engine, but when I hook a trailer to it, it shakes and shudders terribly. It has been to ford several times with no cure and after researching it I've found that the leaf springs are made so it has a nice plush ride while empty (Rides like a dream empty), and when you load it up you get alot of axle wrap. Also being a small engine, it has no engine braking power at all. Even with my small tandem axle trailer and 2 atv's my rotors are warped at 14,000 miles. That being said, my next truck will be another 1 ton Cummins
