... to put ten friggin' hoses on these trucks?

I had the "pleasure" of changing out all the radiator/heater/cooling system hoses today. Besides just the number of hoses, a couple were a real PITA to get to... like the one between the alternator and block, or maybe the one at the back of the heat exchanger, or... .

I have a strong urge to strangle a particular engineer right about now. ;) The neighbors probably picked up a few additions to their vocabulary, too.

Get in line...

Yep, every time I ever had to work on an overengineered piece of metal. Ex's Mazda was especially bad about that. Turn the air blue enough for people to think I was under water. :D;)

The worst vehicle ive ever worked on is my Ford (sorry bout the foul tongue) E-350 Cube van with a 7. 3 litre. No matter what job you do on it it's guaranteed to make you spit flames... .

Why did you have to change every single hose?

My old F150 was a pain, but it only had one hose that was buried - the rest of the problems were from those stupid factory hose clamps they used... you know, the ones with the screw sticking straight out, and that corrode together so they won't loosen? I hate them almost as much as the %@$! spring clamps the Dodge has... or should I say "had. ";)

I had one hose that was seeping a little, so I figured while I had the system open I'd change them all and flush it. I'm taking the truck on a 3500+ mile trip in April, and the thought of changing one of those hoses on the side of the road just doesn't do anything for me. ;)

I think it's almost easier to pull the head off and then change the hoses! I just did that to my friend's '95 Dodge Cummins.

Okay, I didn't pull the head JUST to change the hoses. The head gasket was leaking in that infamous place.

good Idea to change hoses, seems as if I read that the army did a study a long time ago... where the cooling system was the most likely 'system' to sideline a motor vehicle.

That was one of the Deutz air-cooled diesel selling points. NO cooling system to let you down. Have a 4 banger on an irrigation pump. No trouble with the engine itself at all, just electrical glitches sometimes (safety shutdown, or the alternator).
